I know everybody is ready to gear up for the 2020 presidential election, but if Democrats and other progressives are smart (especially you, Berniecrats), there's a deep well of low turnout/high impact local elections scheduled to be held in 2019 and that can be influenced by a well-organized recruitment and GOTV effort. Imagine city officials who:
1. Hold police departments accountable.
2. Are more responsive to lower-income residents.
3. Hold the line on gentrification.
4. Do not empty their treasuries to attract corporations on empty promises of additional jobs.
5. Go after local slumlords and polluters.
We have the infrastructure and energy to get it done, and those who win and make a difference can take that spirit to state capitols and Washington.

(31,261 posts)After what happened with the House of Delegates and on November 6, flipping 5-6 is not out of the question with the right candidates. Democrats hold all statewide offices there, that says the tendency of voters is blue.

Still work to do before 2020 gets here. One of the problems Dems have had is this. Ignoring everything except the Presidential, when much of the real important work is done at the local/state level, including such mundane things as election integrity.
