Ted Olson accepts CNN case against White House after refusing to join Trump's Russia defense

Conservative lawyer Ted Olson, former Solicitor General under President George W. Bush, is now representing CNN in a case against the White House.

In a statement on Tuesday, Olson said that he was suing the White House on behalf of CNN after correspondent Jim Acosta had his press pass revoked.

“The Supreme Court has held in no uncertain terms that the First Amendment protects ‘robust political debate,’ including speech that it is critical of those who hold public office,” Olson said. “Mr. Acosta’s press credentials must be restored so that all members of the press know they will remain free to ask tough questions, challenge government officials, and report the business of the nation to the American people.”

Earlier this year, Olson declined an offer to join President Donald Trump’s defense team for the ongoing Russia investigation, which is being conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller.

According to The Washington Post, White House counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway recommended Olson to the president.

“I can confirm that [the firm] and Theodore B. Olson will not be representing Trump,” Theodore J. Boutrous, a spokesperson for Olson, said at the time.

who has been on many sides of many cases, but always defending the law and the Constitution. Glad to see him fighting on the side of the First Amendment and Freedom of the Press.

I can't imagine that 45 wants this to turn into the shit storm that is about to hit. I don't always agree with Ted Olson but he plays to win. And he must think this will go to the SCOTUS.
