(11,028 posts)She was more on the moderate end (relatively) but she hitched her wagon to Trump and it cost her...

(11,257 posts)So she'll be in the Senate either way.

(31,261 posts)She actually stood a much better chance of winning. But she chose to veer to the far right and kiss up to Trumpism, that doomed her because she lost a lot of young people and Hispanics.

(7,522 posts)But she did criticize drumpf before going over to the dark side to try and win the nomination. Hope it's a lesson to other repubs.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)and ran to the center-right in the primary, and said no to Trump campaigning for her, she likely would have won. Her loss and the loss by the prick in Nevada should be a warning to republicans in diversifying states, hugging on to scared White people is a recipe for trouble as minority populations grow.
Bradshaw3
(7,522 posts)That's the Catch-22 for formerly mainstream repubs like her. She didn't even endorse drumpf in 2016 but had to embrace him to get the crazy vote, which cost her in the general. But you're right, repubs in her situation may win primaries but are going to lose the general, and that's only going to get worse for them.

(8,620 posts)She shouldnt have voted for that damned tax bill. Its mathematically impossible for the govt to meet its SS, Medicare and Medicaid obligations unless they repeal the tax law. McNasty was all for that bill. I wonder how gracious a loser shed be if she didnt have an assured Senate appointment.

(49,389 posts)about her position on pre-existing conditions in regards to healthcare. McSally will likely get a strong GOP challenger earlier on.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)If the Arizona democrats put up a strong challenger, McSally kissing up to the loony right to win will again hurt her in the General. My guess is Arizona democrats put someone who has a good public profile and strong military credentials up against McSally, a Mark Kelly or a female military ex officer who we have not heard of yet, but Arizonans know and respect.

(53,061 posts)He is termed out and out performed McSally significantly
He should be able to persuade Kyl to stay until 2020, if not appoint another place holder.
McSally doesn't have a natural constituency in AZ.
Her congressional district despises her and she couldn't even win the primary with Arpaio's phony race to split the nut job vote. (McSally's and Arpaio signs were identical, they not only used the same sign shop they didn't even bother to change the template).
Ducey is termed out for Governor, and is much more popular than McSally.

(135 posts)Anyone who paid attention to this race knows she came off as repulsive liar and a lunatic. There is a reason a significant number of Republicans could not stomach her.
Here is her accusing Synema of treason in a debate:
Here is her lying about her record on pre-existing conditions:

She ran one of the most negative campaigns I ever witnessed. Nothing positive about herself. Telling.

(5,313 posts)After a hard fought battle, she gracefully concedes and wishes the winner success. A touch of class very few republicans show these days. I hope she shows the same class when / if she gets appointed to fill McCain's seat.

(31,261 posts)Fortunately Sinema was strategic enough to lock her on the right fringe that she had run to to beat the two nuts that she ran against in her primary. Once McSally was on the nutty fringe, she had to embrace Trump, that cost her truly moderate Arizona republicans that likely went for Sinema as the better choice.

(6,699 posts)Now to find an even better candidate to run against her for the other Arizona Senate seat.
She played nice ONLY because she knows she has a very good chance of being seated in the Senate regardless of the outcome of this race in McGrumpys chair.
It would be great if we can field an even better candidate to run against her the next time and kick her ass twice...... even harder the second time.
