A Democrat has all but officially won whats considered one of the most important local races this election, as Republican Rob Poythress on Saturday conceded to Democrat Anna Caballero in the race for the Senate District 12 seat.
With an acknowledgment that there are still votes left to count and implying most of those votes could likely favor his opponent and flip the red seat Poythress took to Facebook to let his supporters know, Its evident Anna Caballero has won the election and I would like to congratulate her.
A former Assemblywoman, Caballero led the race with 52 percent of the vote to Poythress 47 percent, according to the Secretary of State.
Once her victory is sealed, Caballero would give Democrats in the state Legislature a supermajority in both houses, just as the state also elected Democrat Gavin Newsom as governor.
With a supermajority, Democrats would have the power to override vetoes without Republican votes.

(70,213 posts)not sure what district, but my brother worked w him on a bill to give vets college credit for military training.
his son was a medic in the army, w surgical training at walter reed. he wanted to be a nurse. when he got back, none of the nursing schools he applied to would give him one minute's credit.
this is the work of the student loan lobby. they want vets in debt to them for every dime possible.
bro did finally get the bill passed after 8 years of lobbying. jerry signed it earlier this year.
it should be federal law, tho. you can be a combat medic and not be able to work as an emt.

(6,139 posts)like taxes or place consititional amendments before voters. Regardless, gop is absolutely useless when it comes to legislature and we must continue shrinking them at every turn.
