A spike in the use of provisional ballots in Georgia during the midterm election suggests hackers purged names from the states voter rolls, according to a civil rights group that sued to get all such ballots counted.
Against the backdrop of a too-close-to-call governors race, the national nonprofit Common Cause on Friday told U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg in Atlanta that its concerns arent speculative, as claimed by Georgia Secretary of State Robyn Crittenden, whose office oversaw the election.
Crittendens predecessor, Republican Brian Kemp, resigned Thursday after declaring himself the winner of the race. Democrat Stacey Abrams hasnt conceded.
Evidence of a significant increase in the use of provisional ballots this year supports the inference that the voter registration list has been tampered with, particularly when coupled with evidence of voter registration problems at the polls and expert opinion regarding the vulnerability of the system, the groups lawyer, Chris Campbell of DLA Piper, said in filing Friday.

(11,522 posts)They need to go back and see how many of those people who had to vote with a provisional ballot were victims of Kemp ordered voter purges. He knew the election was going to be close and through these purges, making it more difficult to vote by withholding voting machines and moving polling places at the last minute he was just barely able to eek out a potential win.

(9,696 posts)I wondered how hacking would help the democrats.
Now I see that voter registration rolls were hacked by the republicans, and what they did was remove names.
As usual, when the republicans make an accusation of a crime, they are projecting onto the democrats what they have just done. It's a brilliant strategy - admit the crime and blame the other side.

(24,772 posts)If the Democrats actually did hack the election systems, Stacey Abrams would have won by a landslide. So republicans are not only accusing Democrats of their own crimes, their false accusations are bizarre and fantastical to boot, so no reasonable adult would believe such allegations.

So he's out, and Stacey Abrams is the winner by default!

(10,721 posts)...you confuse the public, alter the media narrative and make the opponent seem defensive when they make the same accusation.
Democrats need to spend significant time talking about this common tactic when they appear on TV. Because Republicans have used it to great effect for decades.
