Gillum, Abrams.Sanders also attributed the less than blue wave-y results from Tuesday to the fact that some Democrats ran on a less left or more conservative Democratic platform. Conservative Democrats didnt excite voters or bring the kind of new people, new energy that they needed and ended up doing quite poorly.
Among the Democrats who lost their races was the Democratic candidate in the Vermont gubernatorial race, Christine Hallquist, the nation's first transgender candidate for governor. She ran on a platform that included a $15 an hour minimum wage, the creation of a paid family medical leave program, working with like-minded states to implement universal healthcare cooperatives, and protecting collective bargaining and workers rights.
Voters in the Green Mountain State returned Republican Phil Scott for his second term. Scott made news this year when he vetoed both a raise in the minimum wage and the establishment of a paid family leave program and revealed that Vermont had contracted with a for-profit prison to house some of the state's incarcerated population in a facility in Mississippi.
Apparently, there's a lot of work to be done in many states, including Vermont.

(27,811 posts)The news gets better every day. I'm stoked. Walker gone? Whitmer elected in Michigan? Beto moving the needle in Texas? Kansas electing a Democratic governor? Gerrymandering getting reversed? I think the results were quite satisfying and better than I'd dreamed of.

(27,811 posts)I mean honestly, we weren't going to take the Senate, and the news at the state level is phenomenal. Not to mention that the percentage of women and LGBQT people in office is going to markedly increase.

(34,452 posts)Considers moderate. Im sure there are many other examples.
And if a white person is uncomfortable voting for a person of color BECAUSE he or she is such, that couldnt be a clearer example of racism.

(34,452 posts)On why he thinks it was a Blue Waveand could be even more obvious if our system werent distorted through gerrymandering and little red states being given the same number of Senators as big blue states. Definitely worth a watch if you didnt see it and he puts it online.

Obviously more losses than wins, but many of those were in ruby red districts including some where we don't even field a candidate sometimes.

Between that statement and the racist one, BS has passed his sell-by date. Is he still filling his pockets with fundraising cash?

(11,949 posts)And if you call yourselves a progressive please start calling yourselves what you really are...Liberal Democrats.
Start with the progressive Woodrow Wilson and end with Huey Long.
In that historical light this is not at all surprising.
My father left small town Louisiana due to the inherent racism. He lived the Long progressive era. No way in hell I will ever described myself as a progressive.
Call me a Liberal Democrat. Cal me a Social Democrat. Do not call me a progressive. I know the history
