(3,569 posts)This is going to be a major catastrophic event. The town of Paradise is burning. The hospital, the High School and many many homes are reportedly gone. Its burning out of control.

(3,569 posts)****CAMP FIRE UPDATE****
The Camp Fire is now at 18,000 acres since it started early this morning just off of Hwy 70 in the Feather River Canyon east of Paradise. The fire exploded up the hill and has destroyed over 1000 homes. Reports from the interior of the fire are sketchy, but listening to scanner traffic, at least some of the downtown has been destroyed and it is possible that most of the town of Paradise has been lost. The winds have calmed down, but it is still a chaotic situation and most of the resources are still focused on evacuations and extracting people who were trapped by fire or could not get through streets that were impassable because of downed trees, power lines and abandoned cars. At least one fire fighter was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Numerous other injuries have been reported. There is zero containment at this time.
I will continue to update the fire here. Click back to Nevada County Weather.

(3,569 posts)SANTA SUSANA FIELD LABORATORY ON FIRE
KTLAs coverage shows the fire above Brandeis-Bardin burning through Area III with Area IV catching fire. Wind is blowing strong to the southwest carrying toxic smoke towards Ahmanson Ranch, the 101 Freeway, Liberty Canyon, Conejo Valley, Santa Monica Mountains and Malibu, potentially. This is a very dangerous event. All people who can smell the smoke from this fire should get themselves, their children, and pets inside and immediately close windows and use filtered air conditioning if possible. Masks should be worn and extreme care dealing with ash and embers. This is not a drill ACT NOW!

(3,569 posts)My FB is full of friends that have lost everything in the fires. The entire city if Paradise is GONE. Now threatening Chico with evacuations in the eastern part of town.
Ive spent a lot of time in that area, and have a ton of friends there too. 1000's of homes lost.
My heart is aching today. A good friend and apparent fire victim, also lost a good friend in the people with a gun incident the other day too. Now they are evacuating that area in SOCAL as well.
Today is not a good day.
