His efforts to impeach Trump may hurt a Steyer presidential run. Fifty-four percent of voters say Congress should not impeach Trump, while 41 percent say Congress should do so, according to Tuesday's NBC News exit poll.

(10,500 posts)that was Bloomberg. Steyer was on our side all the way back in 1984 when he worked for Walter Mondale.
Those two men should not be spoken of as if they are somehow similar candidates.

(102,276 posts)Bloomberg would likely be reduced (no pun intended) to another Dukakis by Trump. The MSM has already diminished Steyer the past year.

(7,398 posts)They probably have varying reasons. Many might want Trump impeached but have reservations as to whether or not it is the best course at the moment. Actually both of those percentages referred to could be suspect as to what the samples actually would prefer to ultimately happen.

(10,500 posts)Bloomberg was a supporter of George W. Bush when he ran for re-election. He will not get my support.
Not that he would be one of my top choices regardless. Steyer is a long-time liberal champion who worked for Walter Mondale. Bloomberg has no history of fighting for Democrats or our policies. I hate seeing those two names lumped together as if they have anything in common.

(56,828 posts)but, he has been putting some big bucks into supporting gun control groups - Everytown for Gun Safety - for a good 10 years or more now.
I would prefer the Steyers & Bloombergs of the world help fund Democrats at the grassroots level - rebuild and improve Democratic infrastructure across the country, as that is how lasting change will be made.

He was also a big pusher of stop and frisk and instances of it skyrocketed during his 3 terms until the shit hit the fan nationwide and a federal court (SDNY) provided a decision in response to a court case that the practice was essentially unconstitutional.

(13,424 posts)They can rent some office space and employ local people whom they pay to navigate the confusing laws and training procedures for registering voters in Texas. Then those people can go register voters. Oath of them chipping in $50M apiece towards this effort would do far more good for the country than run into for President or starting impeachment petition drives.
