This was Gettysburg for the guys and gals in blue. 11/3/20 will be our Appomattox.

(1,826 posts)Democrats exceeded expectations by flipping 12 seats in the Texas House in the Dallas, Houston and Austin areas. While not enough to claim a majority, they did narrow the GOPs control of the chamber and could wield considerable influence in selecting the next House Speaker. T

(14,565 posts)I would have been satisfied at that.
Instead it still feels like a loss, partially because I frequent some Miami forums and the right wingers are predictably crowing, basically ridiculing the notion that Gillum could be elected in this state.
I understand the inevitability of that type of thing, in such a bottom line business.

(43,379 posts)last time I checked. All our losses in the Senate
flipped races were very predictable. Same for TN. They all ran poor campaigns and they lost support amongst the base by casting some really bad votes or, in Bredesen's case, foolishly saying he would vote for Kavanaugh. Tester's win was the exception. He ran a decent campaign, and Trump's attacking him helped shore up support from his base.

(11,023 posts)The Republicans are suing to stop counting some of them, that's a tell. Whether they succeed in stopping the count is another story...

(43,379 posts)level. Georgia, probably the worst this election, has multiple people, starting with Kemp himself, who need to go to prison after a fair trial.
This rot needs to be fixed, along with gerrymandering, and then the right wing/white wing scum will eventually be crushed by demographics.

(99,710 posts)That was a personal loss. I lived in FL for most of my life. Another reason to never return.

(2,227 posts)You know, the vindictive turd that he is, he would want to give all the electronics on AF1 to Vlad, his BFF.
Realistically, he probably has his personal jet sitting with a full tank, just in case.
I would guess he would head to Saudi Arabia. Putin would kill him in a heartbeat and not think twice. And I bet turdface HATES that Putin has so much power over him....
Better yet, maybe he SHOULD go to Moscow, so Putin make him his bitch for real.
Yep. Nixon got Marine One off the White House lawn as a courtesy, but he wasn't fleeing overseas.

That's 65%-70% of the senate seats up for election this year.
Reps only won 10-12. Yeah, they did better than 6 years ago. But they didn't really have great success TBH.

Midwestern Democrat
(806 posts)pumper" for the last 8 years. After 2010, I thought there was a real possibility that we might not see a Democratic House for 20 years or more - so the importance of winning the House back cannot be overstated. As far as the Senate goes, we all knew this was a brutal map and I wasn't shocked at all by any of the four Senate seats we lost - anyone who thought Heitkamp and McCaskill were going to win was delusional; I never really believed Donnelly was going to win either - like McCaskill, he only won in 2012 due to GOP self-destruction; and Nelson's re-election looked shaky all year.

(42,282 posts)But I was also exhausted from a loooong day at the polls (we had over 50% voter turnout...in a midterm! Not so happy with the results, tho--I'm in Ohio)
But now I feel the "Blue Wave" was over-hyped as to what it could accomplish and realize that missing unreachable goals doesn't turn a major win into a defeat--we freakin' WON so much more than we lost!
Yeah, there is still a slog and many battles yet to fight (I like your Civil War analogy, btw). Let's not lose heart.

(58,785 posts)And we now have apparently 98/possibly 99 women members in the house, which of course is something of a sexual revolution all by itself and will have a liberalizing influence since regardless of party women's coefficient of assholism averages somewhat lower.
The Republicans lost the suburban vote in repudiation of the corruption and extremism that's taken control. The interests of right wing plutocrats are currently predominantly being supported by aging, rural, white supremacist, male conservatives -- who suspect but don't want to believe it's true -- and of course the agents they currently still have holding many seats in our legislatures and judiciaries.
