Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) barred the Des Moines Register from covering his election night event in Sioux City on Tuesday, according to the Iowa newspaper.
King called the 169-year-old newspaper a "leftist propaganda media outlet" in an email rejecting the outlet's request for credentials.
"We are not granting credentials to the Des Moines Register or any other leftist propaganda media outlet with no concern for reporting the truth, wrote Jeff King, who is Steve King's son and a paid campaign staffer.
The Register responded by calling the decision an "unfortunate" one that shuts out the paper and "the people of Iowa."

(58,785 posts)The Register is a major newspaper published 7 days a week with a very large circulation.
This would be a very bad decision at any time, but least damaging for a politician who thought he'd already lost...
Hope, hope, hope!!!!!!

(3,020 posts)there's no perfect national equivalent, but it's roughly like calling the WSJ or USA Today a "leftist propaganda media outlet" -it's a Gannett paper after all.
On a good day it would feature some boosterism, some small town feel-good, like these non-election day topics today:
"Young Iowans in this small town could soon earn $75,000 a year
How an Iowa baby who lived 9 days gave life to another child
The Register's 50 greatest high school volleyball players of all time
Iowa's run game needs octane; no alternate jerseys

Strong stuff. No wonder Steve can't deal with it. At least he managed to turn away some last minute undecideds.
