John Boehner tries to reassure Republicans nervous about Ryan
by Jed Lewison
According to Politico's Alex Isenstadt, last night John Boehner hosted a conference call aimed at reassuring nervous House Republicans that Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan won't hurt their chances of winning reelection:
What a difference from two years ago, when Boehner was instead trying to reassure voters that House Republicans wouldn't be crazy enough to actually support Paul Ryan's agenda:
The difference between then and now? Back then the tea party didn't control the GOP. Now it does. And despite Boehner's attempt to put lipstick on the pig, Republicans are right to be nervous about the politics of the Ryan plan.

According to Politico's Alex Isenstadt, last night John Boehner hosted a conference call aimed at reassuring nervous House Republicans that Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan won't hurt their chances of winning reelection:
"The pundits are buzzing that with Paul on the ticket, the Democrats are going to attack us on Medicare," Boehner told members on the call, according to two sources familiar with the Speakers remarks. "Well, heres a news flash: they were gonna do that anyway."
"The best defense on Medicare is a good offense," Boehner added. "And Paul Ryan gives us the ability to play offense."
What a difference from two years ago, when Boehner was instead trying to reassure voters that House Republicans wouldn't be crazy enough to actually support Paul Ryan's agenda:
Representative John A. Boehner, Republican of Ohio, the minority leader, has praised Mr. Ryan but said the Roadmap would not be a part of the Republican agenda this fall.
There are parts of it that are well done, Mr. Boehner told reporters last month. Other parts I have some doubts about, in terms of how good the policy is.
The difference between then and now? Back then the tea party didn't control the GOP. Now it does. And despite Boehner's attempt to put lipstick on the pig, Republicans are right to be nervous about the politics of the Ryan plan.

why would the House Repugs believe him now. He is the worst Speaker of the House ever. He has no credibility. I got to believe that the House Repugs have a lot to worry about.
I just pray that the American People have the Repugs number and vote to throw them out of their jobs. We need Nancy Pelosi back to get back to a Congress that has the support of the American People.

House and Senate Republicans basically approved a proposal that doesn't add up.

The plan, which passed 228 to 191, with no Democratic votes and 10 Republican defections, will form the template around which much of the 2012 election will be fought. Democrats will try to hang its extensive changes to Medicare around the necks of vulnerable Republican candidates, along with the accusation that Republicans supported a program to punish the poor and elderly while rewarding the rich with still more tax cuts. Republicans will say theirs is the party willing to make the tough choices to tame a soaring federal debt.

(Wednesday), except for a couple of hypocrites worried about reelection, Senate Republicans joined their House brethren and voted to end Medicare as we know it. The only really interesting vote was on Rep. Paul Ryan's budget, the one that the House passed and that Mitt Romney has endorsed. It failed 58-41.
