Just returned from voting in MD, Montgomery County.

WOW!! We are historically BLUE but even our county and polling precinct the numbers had exceeded last mid-term after the poll were open 30 minutes. When we got there (about 8:30) there was just a small line about 15 voters but a steady stream in teaming down rain. No worries about this blue wave except that Larry Hogan may still be our governor and that is not the worst thing that could happen to us.

He's distanced himself from Trump and removed a statue from the State Capitol of Roger B. Taney, the infamous Dredd Scott judge. Yes, he's made cuts, but not nearly as drastic as many other Repub governors.

His opponent has no political experience and has pie in the sky promises with no way to pay for them. I really wish the Democrats had someone better, but the MD Dem party is very disorganized, they can't get good candidates to win primaries.

He's similar to VA former GOP Gov Bob McDonnell or former Rep Tom Davis. They say a lot of reasonable things and then support all the typical Republican crap. Hogan turned down $900 million in Federal infrastructure funds for MD and cut $60 million from education. Everyone knows Trump is an asshole, but idiots think Hogan is decent.

It is an embarrassment that this thread appears on DU's greatest page, especially on election day.

I think he took that money and the line is being built. I thought he would cancel it altogether. MD has a huge education budget, so taking $60 million out is not much. There is a constitutional amendment on the ballot to make sure lottery funds are added directly to education, and not replacing other funds, which i expect will pass.

Hogan is not Walker or Kobach. He still has to work with an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature. The state is not falling apart. I am not going to cry over Hogan while Trump tears the nation apart.

Seems like reviving the red line would be a winner for Jealous, but I haven't heard much about it. Haven't really heard much from Jealous at all, actually.

Jealous has not run a good campaign IMHO, I have seen almost nothing about him and what he stands for. Haven't even gotten a mailer from him. I voted the first day of early voting a few weeks ago and I voted for Jealous. I live in a Red area of Montgomery County, yes, there are some red areas very few and far between

It was the right move politically and morally, and I don't care if it's purely selfish. Jealous is getting few volunteers and donations. I sent all my money out of state and volunteered in a VA swing district. Much more important to take Congress back.

I voted for Rushern Baker in the primary, who I thought would have been a much stronger challenger.

Basically one who curries favors and is able to portray himself as pragmatically bipartisan, which manages to conceal the fact that at the end of the day, he still is a stone cold Republican.

Considering how Christie crashed and burned in his second term, if Hogan wins he could still follow suit and have his true colors revealed.
