Republicans attacking Biden for 'chains' need to take a long, hard look in

f Mitt Romney really thinks that it’s the Obama campaign that has a strategy of "division and attack and hatred," then he has different definitions for those words than Webster’s Dictionary. Yesterday, the Romney camp feigned outrage over an offensive comment by Vice President Joe Biden; he said economic policies of the Romney-Ryan ticket would put the audience (which included plenty of African-Americans) "back in chains."

To be clear, the vice president’s comments are indefensible. He wouldn’t be Joe Biden if he didn’t commit a gaffe or several during an election cycle. That said, while what Biden said was seemingly insensitive, the Romney campaign has a history of race-baiting and out-of-context attacks. They are not in the position to call out the vice president for his very poor choice of words.

Thankfully, Jonathan Capehart offers a helpful refresher of Romney’s race baiting in The Washington Post. Team Romney counts John Sununu among their official campaign surrogates. Sununu has said he wished the President "would learn how to be American." This is casting the President as an "other," as "not one of us"; it's is a nod and wink to the birther movement that just won’t die.

Speaking of birthers, Romney has voluntarily fundraised with the birther king Donald Trump. The Romney camp apparently values his endorsement and support and has refused condemn Trump’s nonsense, which has continued even after still more proof of Obama's birth in Hawaii has materialized. For Team Romney, it must matter more to have Trump’s support and the support of those who share his views than to call birtherism by its correct name: racism.

I'll defend it. It was a figure of speech. Only an idiot would think different. This is just like the "you didn't build that" shit. Just because they don't understand adult talk, they scream till the media puts that pacifier in their mouth, and shakes their head in agreement, and tells them it's alright now.
