(9,897 posts)This is not the Kingdom of Saudi America...it is the fucking United States of America and the ONLY reason this country works AT ALL is equal justice under law, period.
I realize that the concept is already badly frayed and that there are at least 3 justice systems (if not more) based on race and money....but the leadership roles of the government have always been reigned in by the Constitution and the rule of law. If Trump defies them both, them it is time to shut down all government functions, stop the machinery with our bodies if necessary by occupying the National Mall, and force the bodily removal of a criminal from the Oval Office.
If Trump thinks he is above the law, it is past time for the law to be brought down on his empty head with maximum impact.

(14,998 posts)because in the end whether by Congressional subpoena or Article III court order a career civil servant at the IRS (not a political appointee) is going to have to choose between turning them over in compliance with the legal document in front of them or go to jail for contempt.
No civil servant at the IRS is going to jail for Trump -- especially since it would not prevent the committee from getting the documents, some other civil servant would process the document order in their stead.

(9,874 posts)Wait until the last possible day to file appeals, ask for more time for briefs and dates for argument, repeat at each appellate level. Unless the courts expedite the cases on their own it may very well last 2 years and if it doesn't he still has his buddy Brett and the gang at SCOTUS to save him. I think he is probably pretty confident about it.
