Above all, Obama focused his speech on the importance of voting.
"When you vote, you can be a check on bad behavior," he said earlier in the speech.
Obama heavily characterized Tuesday's election as a check on Republican power.
"Society doesnt work unless words have meaning and consequences," Obama said. "And the only check right now on the behavior of these Republicans is you and your vote."
He said that the only antidote to a government of the powerful few is one of an energized many. While one election can't change everything, he said, it can "make things a little bit better."
(Obama) is a great person to help Donnelly be re-elected, said Anthony Jetter, 52, who is from Michigan City. Because of his presence and character, his class.
By 2:30, the roughly 7,000 seat arena appeared to be full. An official tally will be issued later in the day.

(14,565 posts)That has been a problem since 2008, when Indiana women were the typical 53% of the vote in Obama's first cycle.
But that dropped to a ridiculously low 50% in 2012 and only 51% in 2016.
Women nationally don't participate as dependably in midterms as presidential years, largely because single women don't show up. But the percentage is normally 51-51.5%. Donnelly could really use that range in Indiana, and not 50% or thereabouts.
The overall female slice of the vote is one of the great wild cards on Tuesday. We're in really good shape if somehow it could hit 52% or above.
