I have been doing some research on what happens to the stock market during impeachments.

The market actually went up during the Clinton impeachment. People didn't see lying about an affair as a threat to the economy. The market took a big hit during Watergate. The market went down until Nixon resigned and then it slowly recovered. People were shocked and worried about watergate. There were also other factors involved in each case.

I believe Trump will be impeached and I have a 401k that I want to protect. I believe the Mueller indictment is going to shock people and the markets.

It is going to be a tough call. If Trump fights, creates chaos and drags things out the markets could take a big hit. If he resigns the markets could recover quickly.

Of course though, that probably had more to do with the oil shock and lousy economy in '74, than with Tricky Dick himself.

As I recall, he tried to blame the Dow Jones' woes on Watergate at least once - but like Cheeto's racist rants these days, only his hard-core base paid any attention.

However, technical trends and the feeling of crowds count also.

With investments, it's far too easy to outsmart yourself.

You might position yourself brilliantly. But it won't matter. Because all us stupid people are the ones who move market prices. And we do so for dumb reasons that sometimes cannot be predicted.

Markets also high priced, and inflated by executives boosting their stock options with corporate buybacks.

A sharp bear like '07 and '08, with averages down in 50% range take a long time to recoup. Contrary to market myths carved in stone, stocks don't always perform over time. Japan still making superior cars, electronics, etc., peaked over 38,000 in the early 1990's. Last I looked the Nik was under 22,000.

I agree markets not necessarily rational or predicable - imo, nice time to step aside.

Will Rogers famously said, circa 1930?, 'I'm not concerned with my return on investment. I'm concerned with the return of my investment.'

just by the amount of Bonds and Treasuries that are being issued due to the massive Trillions in Tax give always

Always remember this,Inflation is the Politicians best friend,it covers them for making personal choices to benefit their personal friends. Polite way of saying, covering their asses for their grafting.

The only jobs created are fast food mostly. And with the Retirement of millions of Boomers, well you see the real jobs numbers. Just a ton of one for one .

I consider that unlikely in and of itself, but I suspect that the Senate will never convict him, so the point is kinda moot.

It was true when the Republicans impeached Clinton and it would be exactly the same if Democrats were to impeach Trump.
Lots of investigations would be better along with passing legislation that the Republican senate never will and present that to voters as a reason to support Democrats. But impeachment is not a good idea no matter how good it might make you feel.

Dems would be shooting themselves in the foot to go for impeachment. Better to take the House and hopefully increase our numbers in the Senate so we can put the brakes on this administration and provide some oversight.

7. If Mueller brings forth evidence of conspiracy, bribery, fraud it is the duty of congress to impeach.

I believe the American people are going to shocked by the evidence. If Mueller proves conspiracy with a foreign adversary who attacked our elections that means Trump and his people are traitors. You can't ignore that.

. . . will create a real, powerful, constitutional crisis. Trump has put on the table his non-commitment to election results even. That July Salon article [linked at DU recently] documented how even dumya, [as well as a number of other Presidents] considered clearly unconstitutional, dangerous, measures.

Gangsters will use any means they can get their hands on. 'They' would love martial law.

The 'conspiracy with a foreign adversary' issue is 'interesting'. Conspiracy law, compounded by clear cut Putin adversary, and treason potential penalties - could seriously scare a lot of 'cons.

It's all dependent on evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors brought forward by Mueller.

That had zero to do with watergate and impeachment. Hard to really glean much from such a small sample size anyway. We have had few impeachments in this country.
