Report: Some Lime e-scooters catching fire in California

We have to admit -- we were a little bummed when Seattle decided that rentable electric scooters weren't allowed.

But now, we're thinking maybe that's OK.

Electric scooters by Lime, a bike-share company operating in Seattle, have reportedly been catching fire, due to a manufacturer's defect in some batteries. Scooters in San Diego, Los Angeles and Lake Tahoe have been recalled, according to a statement from the company.

"At no time were riders or members of the public put at risk," the statement read.

The defect was detected in August, and Lime says it worked with Segway, which manufactures the e-scooters, to create a program to detect affected scooters.

"We will not take any chances, no matter how small, with the safety of our community or the public," Lime said.

And hauled the to the landfill.
You still see a couple of variations of the scooters laying around town everywhere. Downtown is full of them, as are the beach areas.
