This morning it was reported that a story was going to be coming out in the next couple of days as a smear against Mueller involving fabricated scandalous claims by former 'colleagues'. The reporter of that story had kept track of who an individual was paying and how much (he said he had the 'receipts'). It looks like he or someone else turned this information over to the FBI and now it's become part of the Mueller investigation itself.
That tells me one thing: someone in the Trump administration was behind this.
And it makes sense. Trump seems to project onto others exactly what is wrong with him and he seems to use tactics that he perceives as damaging and effective. For example, Trump almost lost his supreme court nominee due to allegations of sexual assault brought up against that nominee. At one point during the nomination process, Trump was even starting to distance himself from Kavanaugh. Trump may have thought it was an effective move and had hopes that it would derail the Mueller investigation.
What reporter would risk his own freedom by interfering with a Federal investigation by trying to smear the special prosecutor of that investigation? NONE. So that means it had to be one of Trump's cronies. The reporter who exposed this plot this morning knows who that person was. And that person is going to do the exact same thing that all the other indictees have done: sing like a bird.
If Trump had anything to do with it, Mueller is going to find out. And I'd put money on it that he did.

(53,784 posts)WRONG!
Mueller has too much power and can fight back. Plus there's the fear factor. Someone recruited got cold feet.
I know I wouldn't try lying against Mueller.

(5,240 posts)So the Mueller story was supposed to be a plant?
That the whole thing about women being paid off is a lie to discredit the media who report it? That is how I read this.
Per Natasha Bertrand
wasn't going to report on this, but I think my fears are coming true. Based on information
that I am privy to, I believe false accusations will be spread about Mueller in order to discredit
him and possibly the journalists who are preparing this story.

(42,282 posts)To make the media look bad, the RWNJ floats a story that they are bribing some women to lie about Mueller. In reality, the woman claiming to have turned down the bribe doesn't actually exist and is, in fact, a hoax. Then the RWNJ hints that they plan to reveal bad things about Mueller and their idea is that the fake woman will have been sent out to lure the media down a rabbit hole.
BUT Mueller's people sent the whole mess to the FBI before the hoax could be revealed? And Worl even got his mommy involved with her phone number? And this make WHO look bad????
Lordy, but the Three Stooges would have tossed this plot line as too silly even for them!

(11,738 posts)They work the long game. They are ruthless and cheat. They seem to out play liberals all the time because they do not play by the rules. They mess a lot of things up and leave a mess along the way. The problem with false entitlement however is that it almost ALWAYS leads you to overplay your hand, to overstep. Trump truly believes that he is "Teflon Don". Gotti was called "The Teflon Don" and he ended up dying in prison. Hopefully Trump will end up like Mr. Gotti.

(5,269 posts)This article explaining it all just came out in the Atlantic by Natasha Bertrand who covers all things Mueller/Russia related.
"A company that appears to be run by a pro-Trump conspiracy theorist offered to pay women to make false claims against Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the days leading up to the midterm electionsand the special counsels office has asked the FBI to weigh in. When we learned last week of allegations that women were offered money to make false claims about the Special Counsel, we immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation, the Mueller spokesman Peter Carr told me in an email on Tuesday.
The special-counsel offices attention to this scheme and its decision to release a rare statement about it indicates the seriousness with which the team is taking the purported plot to discredit Mueller in the middle of an ongoing investigation. Carr confirmed that the allegations were brought to the offices attention by several journalists, who were contacted by a woman who identified herself as Lorraine Parsons. Another woman, Jennifer Taub, contacted Mueller's office earlier this month with similar information.
"Burkman, a conservative radio host, is known for spreading conspiracy theories. He launched his own private investigation into the murder of the Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich, dangled uncorroborated claims of sexual harassment against a sitting member of Congress, and earlier this year offered $25,000 to FBI whistle-blowers for any information exposing wrongdoing during the 2016 election. He also promoted legislation that he authoreddespite not being a member of Congressthat would ban gays from playing in the National Football League. And hes hosted two fund-raisers for Rick Gatesthe former Trump-campaign official who was indicted by Mueller late last year."

(32,705 posts)with trump's repeated claims about men being unfairly accused. I know his supporters are idiots who would go along with anything, but I think this would be way too soon an about face, even for them. Was he counting on us "evil" democrats to do his dirty work? Again, still would look hypocritical considering how he completely ignored the outrage over Kavanaugh. In order for his plot to have any chance of working, he would have needed to kick K under the bus (at the very least).
