"SNIP.....
A new report reveals that President Donald Trump spends an unprecedented amount of time relaxing or engaging in otherwise unstructured activity, including one day last week when he had more than nine hours blocked off for unspecified "Executive Time."
This analysis of Trump's schedule came about thanks to a recent article that looked into the president's private detailed schedules, according to Politico. It discovered that, on last Tuesday, Trump scheduled roughly three hours of his day for official meetings, policy briefings and public appearances and more than nine hours for "Executive Time" that, in his case, usually involves watching television, tweeting and talking with friends and allies over the phone. Indeed, Trump's first commitment last Tuesday was an 11:30 AM meeting with his White House chief of staff, John Kelly, and the rest of his day involved open time for blocks as long as 2 hours and 45 minutes
Although Tuesday was an extreme example, the rest of Trump's work schedule from Oct. 22 to Oct. 26 showed a similar pattern brief spurts of activity involving the workload of the presidency followed by lengthy stretches of "Executive Time." None of his official commitments last week began earlier than 11 AM, and most of his time was spent commuting to and from political rallies for Republican candidates who felt they needed his help for next week's midterm elections. In total, Trump spent just over two hours last week in policy briefings and was only scheduled to receive the President's Daily Brief on two of the five days that were reviewed.
As one person familiar with the president's scheduling told Politico, "He might read something in the paper and immediately youd get an impromptu meeting on trade. Its just more impromptu than like a month in advance you have a policy time set that youre going to work up to."

(16,646 posts)You have to go all the way back to Reagan to find a president that wasn't so excited by the job that they spent LONG hours doing it, often to the exhaustion of their staffs. Obama was fairly disciplined in going to the residence for dinner, but frequently went back to the west wing to finish the evening. Bush II was a bit notorious for ending the evening "early" (9:00 pm or so) but his day started fairly early as well. Clinton apparently couldn't "stop" working. Even when in the residence apparently, he would visit with staff and take lengthy phone calls. Basically, in the Clinton White House apparently it was difficult to distinguish between "working" and "relaxing". And Bush I was a major work-a-holic. Early mornings and long evenings.
Reagan was the last president to have a limited schedule, especially after he was shot. And to some extent apparently that was driven a bit by a very protective wife with some odd ideas about how to make schedule decisions.

Granted, he may have just been having an especially bad day and I saw him at his worst, but I don't think so.
Reagan's work experience as an actor saved him that day. Light's camera, action! He managed to get off a few charming trademark character-actor sound bites for the television news.
All the "mainstream" media, especially the right-leaning local press, politely ignored Reagan's obvious infirmity; politely took no note that his crew was literally shoving him around according to script.
I think Trump is a similar Republican Party meat-puppet.
It seems we're all trapped in a "reality television" show that really sucks.

Granted, it takes a little more time and effort to get Mushroom Penis ready for cameras (what with the spray tan, wild hair flap and all), but same basic process. The repubs learned a long time ago that their candidates don't need to be the whole package. As long as the person can appeal to voters, no actual intellect or substance is necessary.
The problem is that this one tweets, so it takes an extra team of handlers to deal with that.
