After years of fighting insurgencies, the Army pivots to training for a major war !!

WONDERFUL ! Just fucking great !!

god, I don't know where to begin? Yes I do.. Dear generals, just say "HELL NO!"

After spending the last 17 years fighting grinding counterinsurgencies in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army is shifting its gaze. This year’s National Defense Strategy charged the military with preparing for high-intensity conflict against major nation-state threats like Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. The Army is falling in line.

"The change is popular with the current crop of generals, to judge from their comments at the recent Association of the U.S. Army annual meeting and exposition in Washington, D.C.

Well, I am a musician, so OF COURSE I want more financial support for classical music, more music taught in the schools, more classical music performances, and please, government support to buy calf timpani heads at lower prices.... oh, and Wiener pauken, like these..

"It is reasonable to refocus a fair amount on higher-end tasks on which we didn’t focus a great deal during the years of back-to-back deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan,” said retired Gen. David Petraeus, who at different periods was the senior U.S. commander for each of those wars. “But we do need to retain the lessons that we learned too often the hard way in those counterinsurgency campaigns.”

HIGHER END TASKS? Like killing even more people??

Fix the habitually sagging DJT polling numbers - make him a respected and revered war president who's polling numbers rocket into the stratosphere.

Thus handing him additional governmental powers and faux prestige.

This is preparation and planning, which all militaries do. It makes sense to prepare for larger scale conflicts with peer nations because that involves an entirely different set of skills and considerations than small scale insurgencies.

We've lost those skills, and if we end up in a war with a peer adversary, we risk a lot of lives by not being prepared.

Such as anti submarine, anti air, air defense, and fighting without guaranteed air support or superiority. All things that has fallen on the wayside since we have been fighting insurgency level conflicts where the enemy lacks air or naval assets. Some things, like ASW and air defense has been arguably lacking since the end of the Cold War. The military has to prepare for future conflicts and we need to be able to deal with a enemy that has parity or near parity with our abilities.
