Despite how the story is being reported, what is almost certainly being planned is an attempt to limit birthright citizenship so that it does not apply where the parents of a child born in the US are not legally in the US at the time of the birth. Does that mean one parent or both? Don't know until we see (if we ever do) what Trump is planning.

I don't think even the expected limitation on birthright citizenship should fly under the 14th amendment, but it is a risky strategy to overstate what Trump is planning since, if he proposes something narrower (as I believe he will), it will make his proposal seem less radical and outrageous.

7. Couple of things.

First,I personally know Persons who came as Refugees from Eourpe and South Asia after WW2 who never applied for Citizenship be cause of fears of being sent back. Yes they are in the Eighties and Nineties,and their Children are all in their Sixties.
