(42,704 posts)I haven't seen Trump's new definition of citizenship and, I'm guessing, neither have you.
However, it is likely that his effort to roll back birthright citizenship will be focused on children born in this country to parents who are here illegally. Given that there were essentially no laws limiting immigration from Germany when Trump's grandfather entered the US, birthright citizenship would still apply to Trump's father.
To be clear, even a limited executive order rolling back birthright citizenship for children born to parents here illegally is unlikely to survive constitutional scrutiny.

(22,366 posts)You eliminate birthright citizenship, you place everyone's citizenship in jeopardy. There is nothing to stop the government from revoking the citizenship of dissidents and critics, or pulling citizenship from whatever minority group happens to be unpopular at the time.
