An unknown person or organization appears to be planning a series of false sexual misconduct allegations in an effort to smear Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Independent investigative journalist Scott Stedman whose writing has appeared in The Guardian, first alerted the world to the work being done in a series of tweets during the early morning hours on Tuesday. At 1:05 a.m. he wrote:
*I wasnt going to report on this, but I think my fears are coming true. Based on information that I am privy to, I believe false accusations will be spread about Mueller in order to discredit him and possibly the journalists who are preparing this story.*
At least two mainstream journalists appear to have confirmed some aspects of the above story. The Atlantics Natasha Bertrand and Jane Mayer .
"Two weeks ago, I was contacted by a woman who claimed to be a former associate of Mueller who said that she got a phone call from a man working on behalf of a GOP operative who was paying women to come forward to make up sexual assault allegations."
Additional tweets pieced the story together further. Stedman said he chased down leads but did not find the woman to be reliable. He did say he got in touch with the person who was allegedly offering money to accusers.
He was extremely willing to confirm that he was indeed paying women to tell stories about Mueller, Stedman wrote. I concluded that this was an effort to discredit journalists working on the Trump-Russia story by planting a false story and see who would print it. I worked on this story and chased down leads, but found the woman to be very unreliable, Stedman wrote. She wouldnt get on the phone, she lied about journalists she was working with, etc. Furthermore, I got in contact with the man who allegedly was offering the money.

In addition, the lunatics on the right will have to reverse everything they screamed about concerning the Kavanaugh accusations.

Allegations made against a Democrat or liberal (or principled non-partisan who might be investigating a Republican or conservative) = *Tears Robe* What further need do we have of witnesses?!?

(17,440 posts)this will become the story until election day and beyond, and the media will focus almost entirely on this, and everyone will choose their sides, and the right will put out photo shopped memes of Mueller sexually abusing women.
But, in my mind, Mueller is totally unimpeachable and has a valiant past which shows actual, real bravery. It is my hope that this false story pulls at least a few of the right from the dark side, thus helping us in the election next week.

(59,503 posts)He also spoke out before the firefighters union where he referenced the offficial Navy record -- which the liars contradicted without any proof.
He also had all but one of the men on any of his swiftboats with him - all disputing the liars.
The newspapers did cover the story and called out the liars, but the cable media and talk radio continued to give the liars enormous free time - even after they were caught in multiple lies. In some way, Kerry was hit by the media/culture change that has only increased since 2004. Incidentially, in 2008, it was Kerry who made the case for Obama to not go with public financing using his experience as the reason.
What he did NOT do was spend a large amount of money on ads to counter their ads. This was because they were in the general election period where Kerry had to stretch the same amount of public money over 13 weeks (starting with accepting the nomination) that Bush had for 8 weeks. As it was, they had to pull out of Co and Va a month before the election because they were short on money.

Just read all that. They can't help but try every trick, even the most obvious, now because they are desperate. They thought they would have an easy time of it with their coup... turns out they were wrong.

Individuals linked to this are @JacobAWohl @Jack_Burkman Michael Wilcox, Ben Christenson. Appears to be an attempt to discredit the media.
My thoughts are that they are trying to do 3 things here. Discredit the media by having them report on something that's a total hoax, muddy the waters around Mueller and promote their own radio shows (Jack Burkman).

Special counsel Robert Mueller has referred to the FBI allegations that women were "offered money" to make "false claims" about him, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Special counsel spokesman Peter Carr released this statement:
When we learned last week of allegations that women were offered money to make false claims about the Special Counsel, we immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation.
Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible coordination between the Kremlin and Trump's campaign.
Jack Burkman, a conservative commentator who claims to be a registered lobbyist, said in a tweet Tuesday that "we will reveal the first of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's sex assault victims." It was not immediately clear if the special counsel was referring to Burkman's claims.

The only women they'd be able to come up with are too old to even be bothered with the money they'd get paid. The rest are young enough to be his daughters.
The only thing Bertrand and Mayer will confirm is that the stories are false.
This is some distraction bullshit.

(14,752 posts)The FBI has been asked by special counsel Robert Muellers office to look into whether a group of Republican operatives has been offering women money to fabricate stories of sexual misconduct by the former FBI director.
As The Atlantics Natasha Bertrand reports, a spokesman for Mueller confirmed on Tuesday that the office recently referred a case to the FBI that involves right-wing activist Jack Burkman allegedly offering to pay women $20,000 each to make up false stories about the special counsel harassing them sexually.

Jack Burkman:
Some sad news. On Thursday, November 1, at the Rosslyn Holiday Inn at noon, we will reaveal the first of Robert Muellers sex assault victims. I applaud the courage and dignity...
A little over a week ago several journalists, including myself, received an email from an individual claiming to have been offered money in exchange for alleging sexual misconduct on the part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
I was contacted via phone call by a man named Bill Christensen, who had a British accent, and said that he would like to ask me a couple of questions about Robert Mueller, whom I worked with when I was a paralegal for Pillsbury, Madison, and Sutro in 1974 (now called Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman), the individual claimed. I asked him who he was working for, and he told me his boss was some sort of politics guy in Washington named Jack Burkman (or Berkman Not sure how its spelled) .
.He (Bill Christensen) then offered to pay off all of my credit card debt, plus bring me a check for $20,000 if I would do one thing. In more of an effort to get him to go away than anything else, I asked him what in the hell he wanted me to do. He said that we could not talk about it on the phone, and he asked me to download an app on my phone called Signal, which he said was more secure. Reluctantly, I downloaded the app and he called me on that app a few minutes later. He said (and I will never forget exactly what it was) I want you to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller, and I want you to sign a sworn affidavit to that effect.
