Mike Pence got a rabbi who is really a Christian to pray for synagogue dead. On Monday, Vice President Mike Pence led a campaign event in Grand Rapids, Michigan where prayers were said by Rabbi Loren Jacobs, who is affiliated with the Messianic synagogue Shema Yisrael. “God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, God and Father of my Lord and Savior Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, and my God and Father too,” Rabbi Jacobs intoned. During the prayer, he also condemned the “hate-inspired shooting in synagogue in Pittsburgh.”

A rabbi referring to Jesus as the Messiah is, of course, an unusual event but Jacobs is no ordinary rabbi. He is, in fact, a Christian.

Shema Yisrael is a synagogue devoted to Messianic Judaism, which is to say, towards a faith that mixes Jewish cultural practices with a variation of Christian theology.

Pence’s decision was widely criticized.

3. I remember riding a bus through the Squirrel Hill area a few years ago.

I was visiting my son during parents weekend his freshman year. I don’t remember where we were heading but we decided to take the bus.

Anyway, at one stop this guy got on with his two kids. They were clearly Jewish. A few stops later a guy gets on - he was wearing a Jews for Jesus T-shirt. I thought it was an odd choice given the neighborhood.

I'm forgetting the term, but I remember Ann Coultergeist catching some flack years back for suggesting the coerced conversion of Jews to Christianity. Wouldn't bringing in a Jesus-is-the-Messiah "rabbi" be the same thing, negating the Jewish view that Jesus is NOT the Messiah?

I didn't think I could dislike pence more, but this is just surreal, the man who delivered the invocation is not a rabbi and the media should stop calling him that. He's a liar, and Christians should very concerned about the Assemblies of God and their messianic "judaism". They are immoral, unethical people, and give Christians a bad name.
