Who has family/friends helped by HIAS? My husband came here when he was 6 and HIAS helped...

...his Mom, him and his twin brothers when they came to NYC from Belgium. The boys were just little kids, but they remember that. And the boat -- they definitely remember the boat

HIAS (founded as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society)[4] is an American nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees. HIAS was established in 1881 to aid Jewish refugees. In 1975, the State Dept asked HIAS to aid in resettling 3600 Vietnam refugees[5]. Since that time, the organization continues to provide support for refugees of all nationalities, religions, and ethnic origins. The organization works with people whose lives and freedom are believed to be at risk due to war, persecution, or violence. HIAS has offices in the United States and across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Since its inception, HIAS has helped resettle more than 4.5 million people.

Emotional a little tears in her eyes by the end of the segment. I have to say I never heard of them or all the good they do until last weekend

It's nice to read about families that were helped by HIAS. So often, organizations like this are just names we have heard but don't connect to on a personal level.

In the mid 70's my parents were involved in helping resettle several Cambodian families. I wish now that I could ask them if HIAS was part of that.
