Basically Trump lied to investors about not being paid to promote this scheme, and told them it was risk free.
Suit names Trump, JR, Eric and Ivanka as members who promoted pyramid scheme

(90,779 posts)The Mad King and his poisonous brood obviously thought they could skate forever, golden in the sunshine.
I think the harsh spotlight of the presidency is what will, gods willing, be what brings them down in ruins. It's an irony of his administration that so many who got away with criminal behavior for decades saw their lives begin to unravel once they were firmly associated with Trump as potus.
If the ruin of so many criminals can be accomplished in courts of law -- and in the court of public opinion -- we stand a better chance of survival than if they get away once again.

(30,613 posts)Each one has escalated the criminality; from Nixon to Reagan to Bush Sr to Bush Jr, and finally Trump, each has massively expanded the scope of their crimes. Time to put a stop to it and make these crooks pay a price. And if it takes out dozens of family members, cronies, and sitting politicians, so much the better.

(6,801 posts)I will never understand why what was so obvious to me was not obvious to others. We are a nation of gullibles. Hate to state the obvious but Barnum was right -A sucker is born every minute or lets rephrase that - A sucker is born every second. Throw in a greedy media and you have the perfect recipe for creating a monster like tRump. That he is the President of our country is beyond shameful.

(82,849 posts)There will be no dodging discovery in this one. The Supreme Court has already ruled (9-0) that a sitting president can be compelled to respond and to attend deposition in a federal civil suit.

(11,175 posts)You write, "There will be no dodging discovery in this one." The first issue won't be whether a President can be compelled to testify but whether the complaint states a claim for relief.
RICO is actually narrower than some nonlawyers believe. "Somebody did something that I think was sleazy or dishonest so I'm going to sue" doesn't state a RICO claim.
Before the defendants even answer the complaint, they will probably move to dismiss the case. Such a motion, if successful, means that the case is over, with no one having been deposed. I haven't read the complaint and haven't boned up on RICO law for years, so I can't assess the chances of success, but "dodging discovery" is at least possible.

If not, don't use the word RICO. It establishes the criminal basis to dismantle an entire criminal enterprise.
Civil suits can only sue for actual damages.

(37,648 posts)They are claiming the fraud is the type that makes it a RICO. But this is NOT a RICO action, which is a criminal action by the govt. This is another lawsuit by investors for fraud. It's not being reported on CNN yet.
