Trump's America is not a safe place for Jews

George Washington, in his 1790 letter to the Touro Synagogue in Newport, R.I., told Jews they would be safe in the new nation.

“The government of the United States .?.?. gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance,” he wrote. “May the children of the stock of Abraham who dwell in this land continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants — while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree and there shall be none to make him afraid.”

Though that assurance has been tested, the United States has endured as a safe haven for Jews.

Now President Trump has violated Washington’s compact. He has given sanction to bigotry and assistance to persecution. After the shooting in Pittsburgh, which the Anti-Defamation League believes is the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in U.S. history, there is no longer safety under the vine and fig tree.

The majority of the people attending the country concert in Las Vegas, I bet, were mostly republican and probably Christian and a lot of whites. And to the Trump admin it's a non-issue.

So if the republican govt doesn't even care about their "kind" then they don't care about the safety of anybody.

and persecuted by the Pilgrims for a long time. Freedom of religion was a damn big deal to the Founding Fathers.

All I was asking is if he said something about this specific case on twitter or something. Note the language on my first post "this specific case". I'm well aware of everything he did in the past; I even said he encouraged violence.

of all stripes showed up (except for the haredis - which we noted).

The speakers tonight was a Christian, a Sikh (I still remember the Sikh temple attack in Detroit), a Muslim, along with our Governor and Mayor, along with the synagogue rabbi and the Colorado ADL director.

They did a great job tonight getting us closer together.

However, to the haredi's (partial) credit, they are doing a community tefillah at another synagogue on Wed night.

What upsets me is that the haredis didn't participate in this vigil, and then they decide to hold a separate event to remember the martyrs.

and I'm terrified to live in this country anymore. Sadly, no other country will take me except Israel (and they're just as bad these days) so I'm stuck here.
