(205,489 posts)They sent in armed trained police officers and many of them were wounded. So Trump thinks the solution is for every house of worship needs to have an army of armed guards? He is the last person to look to for a solution. He stokes up hate and prejudice wherever he goes. He made hate acceptable in this country again.

Insane. Not because being prepared for emergencies is wrong but because they are bringing this mentality of hate on themselves by buying into all the political propaganda and acting as if they are the victims. Can hardly see or hear the teachings of Jesus through all their saber rattling. So much hate inside an institution that proclaims love as a primary teaching. True that not all churches are like this, just the big ones...and many small outliers. "Onward Christian soldiers marching as to war. With the cross of Jesus going on before." How many of them good Christians have not just a gun for protection but an arsenal. As an outside observer, I think they act more like their devil than their savior.

(5,068 posts)At my local Jewish Community Center (also the home of several congregations), there's a security gate at the front. The oldest synagogue in the US (Touro, in Newport, Rhode Island) has a bolt hole. The founders were fleeing the Inquisition, and they were going to be prepared. The bolt hole was used on the Underground Railroad.
