11 killed, several wounded, in Pittsburgh synagogue shooting

A gunman killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue during Saturday-morning services in what the Anti-Defamation League called "likely the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the history of the United States.”

Law enforcement officials said Robert Bowers — a 46-year-old man with a history of making anti-Semitic statements online — surrendered to police after a gun battle and is expected to face hate crime charges. The hour-long incident left 11 dead at Tree of Life Congregation, according to Lynette Lederman, executive assistant to city council member Corey O’Connor. Lederman, who is also a former president of Tree of Life and a senior member of the Jewish community, said six others were shot — including four police officers.

“It’s a very horrific crime scene," Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich told reporters in the afternoon, after Bowers had been apprehended. “One of the worst that I’ve seen. And I’ve been on some plane crashes.”

The suspect interrupted a baby-naming service at about 10 a.m, Pennsylvania’s attorney general told the Associated Press. Witnesses told police he burst in shouting anti-Semitic slurs and began firing.

I know one of the local KDKA reporters on the scene has been using the "may be up to 11" number for a few hours still awaiting confirmation but it seems that confirmation has now come. There were people in surgery earlier so not sure if any of the additional folks came out of those who were undergoing treatment.

typical from an assault rifle like the AR-15... and the difficulty in doing any surgery that can save someone shot by one.

The Public Safety Office for Pittsburgh said that in his 30+ years, he had never seen anything as horrific as what he saw today (and he said he had analyzed plane crashes, etc). They are apparently still working the forensics inside.

You are correct the details will be awful and this was all he had to offer on preventing it again
His reply to reporters on gun control > "the Pittsburgh synagogue should have had armed security at the bris and the gunman wouldn’t be able to do what he did"

(ritual circumcision)

One of the former Rabbis there said with that ceremony going on, there was a potential of having young families and/or children there too since it was a special event.

Trump is responsible for this hatred and violence. He has stirred these people to action. When is congress going to say enough and remove him from office. He is more of a threat to this country than everything else combined.
