Girl, u might wanna tell your husband to stop saying white-supremacists are, good people, to stop blowing dog-whistle by calling himself a nationalist, to stop lying & fanning hysteria re the migrant caravan, to stop leading chants against other Americans. #BeBest...whatever
@flotus
My heart breaks over the news out of #Pittsburgh. The violence needs to stop. May God bless, guide & unite the United States of America.

(6,448 posts)You nailed it. Meaningless platitudes from the wife of the racist in chief are insulting. Lay the responsibility at his rancid doorstep where it belongs.

In a everyday marriage it is give and take neither the man or woman can control their spouse. But my mother use to say that she was the neck that turned the head, in other words it was a equal partnership.

(282 posts)I was just reading some of Trump's stooges who gleefully were saying that Bowers wasn't a Trump supporter.
I knew Trump was in there somewhere and it wasn't good yet couldn't put my finger on it.
According to his attorney Cesar found a father figure in Trump and believed he had a place at his table and the racist, anti-semitic Bower blatantly hated Trump and they both turned to violence.

(846 posts)I grew up in a country where there was a civil war. A very ugly war between the Nationalists and the Republicans. The Republicans were the people who stood for The Republic, which had a constitution and held democratic elections. The Nationalists were the coalition of wealthy land owners, Industrialists, the Roman Catholic Church, and a small minority of the Military. In fact, the army that Franco raised was largely a mercenary army brought in from outside Spain and paid for by the coalition of wealthy families who "wanted their country back."
So when you hear Trump say, I am a Nationalist," what he is really saying is, "I am a Fascist."
Just like Franco, Mussolini, and Hitler. When we finally start believing him?

(5,770 posts).... are composed primarily of nationalists. This equivication of nationalism and fascism is false.

(8,200 posts)As it was aptly summarized, When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
Balanced Patriotism and extreme nationalism are not automatically synonymous. Nationalism is defined as the exalting of one nation above all others and identifying that ideal as being that of a particular party. Trump uses this as a weapon in which he encourages his followers that they are the only true Americans and that liberals are an immoral, unpatriotic enemy that must be destroyed.
reACTIONary
(5,770 posts).... "extreme nationalism" and "extreme nationalism" with fascism. Any polictal tendancy carried to an extreme can be bad. And not every bad political tendency is or should be characterized as fascism.
Nationalism does not require that one party or faction claim to be the only legitimate voice of the nation. Nor need it be based on ethnic or linguist commonality. In the US nationality is based on citizenship.
We live in a world of nation states and nationalism is the pedominate basis of political organizarion, including, most particularly, the liberal westren democracies, and certinally America since its founding.
If you identify nationalism with fascism you are calling the overwhelming majority of Americans fascist, including liberal Democrats. And you are giving dotard 45 an unearned advantage.
The proper response to dotard claiming to be a nationalist is "So what? Who isn't ?"

(36,829 posts)Trump "emboldened" the Nazis
America fought a war against the Nazis and supposedly won.
Yet here they are marching to "take back America".
" Michael Von Kotch, a Pennsylvania resident who called himself a Nazi, said the rally made him "proud to be white."
He said that he's long held white supremacist views and that Trump's election has "emboldened" him and the members of his own Nazi group. "
