(8,090 posts)I just Googled NYP and NYDN Trump headlines: mafia Don, stupid Palin, perv Roy Moore, soft core Melania, "size matters"... they're brutal!
GoCubsGo
(32,086 posts)One expects that kind of headline from the Daily News, and not Murdoch's rag. I was surprised to see it on the front of the comPost.

(2,692 posts)As abhorrent and repellent as Bush/Cheney were, Trump is by far so much worse, so much less human, that it is easy to forget the regime that :
-- legitimized torture,
--killed 4,000 Americans in an unjustifiable war the waging of which hinged on lies they knew were lies,
--forced through a Medicare D to the benefit of Big Pharma,
--outed a covert CIA agent,
--authorized total surveillance of American citizens,
--cut taxes for the rich while waging wars on credit (something never done before anywhere, I think)
--creating a runaway deficit which led to a global economic crisis,
--initiated the "you're with us or against us" political stance that began the disintegration of American society into Tea Party activists and their GOP slavish cheer-leaders screaming "treason" to any and all defiers of the regime, and normal people.
to name a few.
Trump made us forget Bush, Bush made us forget climate denying kleptocrat Reagan, and all three have us looking back with a certain nostalgia to Richard Nixon, for chrissakes! What a track record! Yet so many little people remain in the GOP fold and continue to vote for these buzzards.

(81,322 posts)An outstanding framing job! LOVE it! Throws so much shade on the whole MAGA construct. Adds massive negativity, which is very well deserved.
I look at those jerks at his rallies, cheering his insults, gobbling up his lies, hooting and yowling and mindlessly chanting Lock her up! - its like a two-minute hate. No - a whole maddening string of two-minute hates at every rally. Thats all those rallies are! And these assholes flock to it, with their deep-seated inner sewers of resentment, racism, misogyny, bullying, misplaced sense of entitlement, and every bad thing your mom (hopefully) told you not to do.
One of my favorite movies is Forbidden Planet, where a brilliant scientist is overcome by his inner demons, which his own research into boosting his mental powers had unleashed. He called them monsters from the id. When those monsters escaped into the open, mayhem, violence, horror, and death soon followed.
I wonder if thats what were seeing - what trump is bringing out in people. What hes connecting with, deep inside his fans, whove probably been told those feelings and urges and deeper, baser instincts are not nice and should be suppressed and gotten over and buried. And they dont want to have to be suppressed like that anymore. Nor do they want to be told those inclinations are bad or undesirable or immoral or wrong or anti-social. They want that inner poison to be validated, which I suspect is why they love trump and cling to him so ardently. HE says its okay. I look at those rallies and those wretched attendees and cannot stop asking myself - what does that say about them?
After all, trump couldnt connect so thoroughly and intensely with that element - if it wasnt already there in the first place.

(2,692 posts)He was arrested several times in the past, once for assaulting his grandmother (I hope this is true!) and was living in his mommy's basement either while or before moving into his van. He's an opioid and steroid abuser, a would-be white nationalist racist whose claim to be a seminole indian was shot down by Osceola's descendant ruling council. (Yes: a white nationalist who claimed to be native American.)
I love the term attributed to him before he got busted: MAGAbomber!
(Also, yes, Murdoch's Orcs' prime directive is selling papers to make money. If their editorial bozos sense a public eager for Trump exposes, that's what they will publish/push.)

(14,047 posts)Red NASA cap, a gift from my brother. Stopped wearing it.
Years ago (pre-Trump) I wore it along with a red jacket on a train trip with a stop in Chicago. I kept wondering why people kept coming up and asking me for directions and other questions (answered most since I had been there before). After a while, I realized that I looked a lot like one of the station's "Red Caps".
