Trump accuses media of trying to 'score political points' after suspect charged for mail bombs

President Trump accused the news media of trying to "score political points" on Friday after a suspect was taken into custody following a spate of attempted mail bombings targeting prominent Democrats.

Trump argued during a campaign rally in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday night that the “media has a major role to play whether they want to or not” in repairing the civility of political discourse. The crowd responded by chanting "media sucks."

“The media’s constant unfair coverage, deep hostility and negative attacks only serve to drive people apart and to undermine healthy debate,” Trump continued.

The president then accused the news media of attempting to use the mail bombing case as ammunition against him and the GOP.

5. He is right in a way. The Media did make this monster in large part.

They covered his every statement and rally as a candidate because it was good for ratings and clicks. It was spectacular reality TV. They played the "Both Sides Do It" game and still do. They treated the most ridiculous statements and claims as worthy of analysis instead of calling bullshit, well, bullshit.


They have only recently stopped covering his rallies. That must mean the ratings on them are down.

Yes, they bear a great deal of the blame for this man.

12. What does he mean by "healthy debate"?

When one of your cult sends pipe bombs to all of your political enemies, what is there to debate? How many "points" should you receive?

Or "all Mexicans are rapists and drug dealers," or "providing healthcare to poor people will destroy America," or "nobody really knows if human activity impacts the environment," or "everything the Orange One says is right, and cannot be debated" and so on as topics worthy of our consideration.

Of course, "healthy debate" as he conceives it means some blowhard getting red in the face yelling ridiculous nonsense about something (that usually involves the oppression of one or another non-conforming social group), a bunch of loyal fanatics cheering for him and intimidating anyone who would present an alternative viewpoint, the utter rejection of logic, reason, and facts, and eventually everyone bowing to his will. Look at the "debates" he had with Hillary in 2016...not exactly a reasoned and principled discussion, using facts and evidence to articulate an argument and persuade an audience by means of logic...just whoever out-blusters and talks over the other party "wins."
