The Florida MAGAbomber is not the only wackadoo out there, by any stretch of the imagination. I hope everyone is going to be watching for similar packages coming from different places over the next couple of weeks. I think the risk of a repeat of this kind of mailing or some other, similar attacks is high.

(7,725 posts)i think the way Fed LEO's behaved helps to discourage that. That was fast. The USA has THE best Federal Employees. Just bc dipshit says every thing is bad, doesn't mean we have to deny our life experience. We as citizens are the ones who fund them. Lest anyone forget. LEOs in America want for very little. The military same same. That's how we roll, and, we saw it really work today.
I think this guy REALLY screwed the pooch here. I know I'm uber ticked this guy tried to hurt TRULY thoughtful, compassionate, and honest American representatives. These people all work HARD for America. And he attacked all of them. ALL of them.
You can't hide hate or stupid, for long. In combination, they make for impulsive and incorrect decision making AEB this guy from the news. This false flag bullshit is infowars dialect nonsense that even they know is just making some kind of argument so they don't have to accept the truth. Radical Right Wing Terrorists thrive in America. See the Bundy crew as another example of how this stuff manifests itself, and gets excused.
But, I dunno. Certainly have to be vigilant even more now. It's almost over...less than 2 weeks to relief.

(146,317 posts)After hearing the press conference, it's clear that he was not all that careful about leaving evidence on the packages.
He made it pretty easy for the FBI, especially since he has his own criminal record. They IDed him from a partial fingerprint and DNA. He's also not at all private online, posting under his actual name on Facebook and Twitter.
In the end, he is a stupid MAGAbomber. Not everyone is so stupid, which could be a source of real worry, I think.

(146,317 posts)It IS reality and it IS news, so they cover it, wall-to-wall. That means that everyone who does something sensational in some way gets covered, and attacking political figures with bombs is the very definition of sensational.
Is that tempting to other wackadoos? You bet it is.

(146,317 posts)Some can even be triggered by light, using a photosensor. I've mounted them in small wooden gift boxes I made out of exotic woods, with a personal message for the recipient.
Now, it's not completely obvious how such a thing would work, and I'm sure not going to write about it here, but anyone with any knowledge of such things beyond the most basic would understand right away.

(8,203 posts)The man who investigators said had more than 40 pipe bombs and materials to make dozens more at his Mesa home has been indicted.
A grand jury indicted Jeffrey Dennis Metcalf on 42 counts of misconduct involving weapons on Sept. 10.
Court paperwork said he had 42 pipe bombs with shrapnel between Aug. 28 and Aug. 30. Investigators also said he had materials to make an additional 30 bombs.

(7,398 posts)concern for many places. Hospitals, schools, anyplace that attracts large gatherings. One large facility I worked at for many years had a specific protocal for suspicious packages. These will now be revisited all over the country and probably initiate some drills here and there.

This will raise awareness again.

Figured that might spawn a bunch of copycats.

(146,317 posts)if one showed up. They even showed photos of the pipe bombs themselves. Given that they were sent to a bunch of people, that makes sense. I'm using the term "copycat" in a more general sense. I'm worried that the next person to send out such things might be smart enough to make them actually work. Our MAGAbomber either wasn't smart enough or didn't intend for any of them to actually explode. I don't know which it is, though.
Making bombs isn't all that difficult. The problem is avoiding blowing your own stupid self up in the process, really. That part requires a lot of smarts and excellent common sense, I'd think. Many would-be bombers have ended up being "hoist by their own petard."
