"I don't think the president understands that words matter"

Last Updated Oct 26, 2018 9:07 AM EDT

President Trump doesn't understand that words matter, Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner said on "CBS This Morning" Friday, after multiple suspicious packages were sent to prominent Democrats this week.

Mr. Trump blamed the media for much of the state of today's divisive rhetoric, even after one of the packages addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan was sent to CNN in New York. "A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" the president tweeted Thursday morning.

The Democrats targeted this week are all people the president has publicly berated.

"I've been very concerned about the president's tone not being willing to call out and call up for that matter the two former presidents who were going to be victims of this kind of attack and one of the things about this president is, I don't think he understands that words matter," Warner said. "I mean, I was governor of Virginia when we had the sniper incident years ago, and how leaders respond in these moments of crisis in reassuring the public, in trying to bring us together, clearly not the way," Warner said Friday ...

Trump is an ignorant fool, but he is not completely stupid. He has all the skills of a confidence man. He knows that words matter. He knows exactly how they matter, which is why he continues to edge up to, then crosses the line. He knows that his only winning strategy is to keep his coalition of disgusting supporters together and to depress turnout from the opposition.

You can remark on his ignorance about any subject, because he is BY FAR, the most ignorant president of the last 50 years. You cannot however, think that he does not know that words matter. He doesn't care and he is challenging people to attack because all he knows is to have his wars of words.

and that they would bring it to us as soon as he did. I kept thinking, "why bother?" No one except 35% of the population gives a shit about what his remarks will be after the arrest today. Who cares? Seriously. Who cares what he has to say? It will just be a bunch of vague scripted statements. So just wait till he takes to twitter to get his real thoughts and feelings about it and spare us the insult of having to listen to "the president".

you know, most of the Folks on this board change the channel as soon as this Idiot shows his face. Please do not forget, there is a complete TV Show operation within the White House. Everything Trump does, says and backdropped is scripted for maximum visual effect. Remember, never any wide angle shots of Donnie Dumbski.

Are the Republicans ready to take on the advertising industry by saying words have no effect on how people behave?

He refuses to reconsider his blind agenda no matter how much injury it inflicts or causes.

He looks for and wants a raw and naked immediate gratification emotional response. Failure of any fore thought or recognition of any potential repercussions is baked into this toxic pastry dished out at trDump's Nazi Rallies - all done by premeditated intention and design.

because it's pretty obvious to me that Trump does understand the power of words, probably more than a lot of people.

with words. He very much knows words matter. Blatant, constant lying, because he knows those words matter and will change a story to his advantage or create so much noise no one hears any words.
