The long knives

by Liberal Librarian

As I said, we don’t have a suspect. But from the target list, we can make some suppositions.

Of course it’s possible that this is some leftist seeking to gin up outrage against Trump and his brownshirts. And this could be an intelligence operation by Putin to sow even more discord in an already-divided population. But I always opt for Occam’s Razor. The people who received the bombs are all forceful critics of Donald Trump. One could be excused for making the logical conclusion: that the person attempting to assassinate, as of last count, 10 people is a Trump partisan who has finally answered his call, which he makes every day at his rallies, “Who will rid me of these troublesome people”.

Make no mistake. These weren’t bomb threats. These were assassination attempts. Assassination attempts against people whom Trump calls his “enemies”. We’ve seen nothing like this since John Wilkes Booth and his conspirators sought to eliminate not just Abraham Lincoln, but a good portion of his Cabinet.

And Trump is to blame for all of it. He’s not a president. He’s the leader of a faction. He is nothing but a thuggish warlord. He speaks only to his cult, in ever more apocalyptic terms. His cult does not consist of the most stable people; they’re angry, despairing, almost hopeless at seeing “their” country ebbing away from them. Eventually, one of them would get the hint and decide to take matters into his own hands. And at last night’s rally, Trump laid the blame for the divisions in the country at… the feet of the media, for being critical of him. Make no mistake: within a couple of days, Trump will be saying that the plot is a false flag to make him and his cult look bad.

How does a republic survive when its supposed leader engages in eliminationist rhetoric against the majority who don’t support him? The events of the past days are further proof that people of good will have to come out en masse to send the GOP packing. A Democratic House and Senate are needed to stop Trump’s treason. The GOP is nothing but a death cult now; re-electing it will send this country to an even darker place.
