"SNIP....
We havent seen anything like it since the night Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. This was a mass assassination attempt, including two former presidents, a former vice president of the United States, a former attorney general of the United States, a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. The person who is responsible for sending bombs to all of those people is the person who mailed the bombs.
Donald Trump did not mail the bombs, but he created the atmosphere where a sick person would look at those individuals and see an enemy. Trump makes no pretense about being the commander in chief of all of the country, being president of all of the people, including the people that voted against him. He is in effect a tribal chieftain who has declared war on half of the country. When he incites by attacking and stigmatizing vulnerable minority populations, alleging conspiracy, calling his opponents enemies of the people, calling journalists enemies of the people, what is it that we do to enemies? How do we deal with an enemy when we invoke martial analogies? We kill enemies. And someone out there took him both literally and seriously.
.....
When you look at a Trump rally, the venom spewed at the journalists, the level of menace, the edge of violence, his celebrating body-slams by a congressman who physically assaulted a reporter. His celebrating supporters who punch opponents in the face. Every day, Donald Trump does everything he can for his own selfish political purposes to inflame and incite.
And we sit around now, and we wonder, is there any causation? Of course, there is. Is there anything that he has done that would create an atmosphere that would instigate or trigger a sick person? Of course there is. And so this idea that Donald Trump is held harmless and not responsible is absurd. He has degraded the civility. He has exacerbated the divisions more quickly, more profoundly than any leader of this country in American history.

(15,751 posts)been away from cable news for 4 days this week, turned on chuck todd at 5p. Awful! Todd lists the 10 bomb devices sent to various liberals for seconds, then minutes on trump blaming the media for it, then crap from shs - all the while the chyron constantly reading 'Trump blames the media". Panelists talk of irony, deflecting etc. There are many relatively uninformed voters now paying attention to news for their first impressions . . .
Here on DU where many are aware that trump is trying hellbent towards destroying democracy and taking over SOON. On DU there is this - an anti Avenatti post gobbling up energy.

(6,831 posts)the Republican Party SUPPORTED this man.
Every. Step. Of. The. Way. From the ride down the escalator to the nomination.
They had the power to STOP this deranged malignant megalomaniac from getting to the WH. FFS, there were 17 other candidates. I refuse to believe that they all threw their lot in with him because he was so "appealing" and "honest" and "real." In the short time he has been in office, the list of offenses he commits daily is longer than my leg. They KNEW before hand what a narcissistic, arrogant, liar he was. Former business associates were spewing out of the woodwork to tell them. They STILL supported him.
Thanks for coming to the party, Steve, but you're late. Way too late. I appreciate you jumping ship, but you only did so because the boat was sinking.

(25 posts)Yes, the dipsit in chief is absolutely responsible. But we need to point out and call out the senatorial and congressional support. These assholes who grin and laugh as they hold their rallies with people yelling "lock her up" among the other disgusting behavior that Fox defends. When the dems take back the house, they need to punish these jerkoffs with investigation after investigation. Leave no stone unturned.

(359 posts)Ann Coulter's only problem with Timothy McVeigh -- her ONLY problem mind you - is that he didn't bomb the NY Times Building. Liberals are "traitors." She joked about poisoning Justice John Paul Stevens. Limbaugh coined the term "Democrat party" to emphasize "RAT."
These two and many others -- Alex Jones etc.etc.- have been spewing this shit for years.
