By Caitlyn Jenner October 25 at 3:24 PM
Caitlyn Jenner is a transgender rights advocate and author.
These past two years under President Trump have given me the opportunity to reflect on a lot of topics that have come up in the LGBTQ community and in our nation. Some of these are thorny issues still worth discussing; many should have been settled long ago. As Ive watched and pondered, my outlook has changed significantly from what it was during my highly publicized and glamorized early Caitlyn days, when my life as an out trans woman was just beginning.
Since then, I have learned and continue to learn about the obstacles our community faces, the politics that surround us and the places my voice can help. I have reflected on what my unique position of privilege means and how I can best use it to make a positive difference.
Following Trumps election as president, I saw fertile ground for change within the Republican Party on LGBTQ issues. Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to claim to support this valuable, vulnerable community, and I was encouraged by the applause he received when he said at the Republican National Convention in July 2016 that he would stand up for the LGBTQ community. Poll after poll showed that Americans views on LGBTQ issues were changing for the better and that this groundswell extended even to the voter base of the Republican Party. I was optimistic that this was how I could leverage my privilege for change.
I believed I could work within the party and the Trump administration to shift the minds of those who most needed shifting. I made many trips to Washington to lobby and educate members of Congress, other Washington policymakers and powerful influencers. These meetings were generally positive and almost always led to encouraging conversations. Despite the criticism I received from segments of the LGBTQ community for engaging with this administration, I remained hopeful for positive change.

(3,259 posts)Jenner still conjures up images in my mind of her time at the Olympics. I never paid much attention to that family or her life after the Olympics.
Again, thanks for the appropriate correction.

Well, no shit. If you'd bothered to have paid attention in the first place, you wouldn't have made that "mistake".

(22,037 posts)Caitlyn is a self-centered media whore. I agree with you that she cannot do simple addition. That's why she, like far too many voters, backed the idiot.
She should simply shut up and live her life quietly since few of us care what she thinks.

(3,975 posts)I tried watching her reality show, her show, not the Kardashians....and it was so sad..she is so superficial...the real folks she had on who need help did not get any from her, she was too busy talking about designer bags and her boobs...Her wealth protects her, the other LGBT folks are not so fortunate...she DOES not represent them.

(22,037 posts)Kindly shut up. You keep exposing yourself as a foolish non-thinking person who is only interested in media attention. Sadly, you are just like Trump.
You have nothing to offer our country or society.
Just shut up.

(58,785 posts)perhaps if she'd taken even one political science class in college that discussed populism she'd have been less easily fooled. Not being so intensely personally involved, watching and listening from outside instead of speaking with many Republican politicians who shined her on, might well have helped also.
Trump's authoritarian populist base seethes and boils with the typical social conservative hates, which he has always fed. Even he, not just Bannon and other clever, fascistic advisers, understood that to be successful his populist movement must sacrifice other Americans to his "red in tooth and claw" base.

(59,587 posts)As an adult, you're responsible for developing and maintaining a certain set of skills.
These include:
Knowing the difference between lies and truth
Knowing the difference between bullshit and reality
Knowing when someone is trying to rip you off or use you
And it's not just having the skills. You're also required to deploy and use them, and to do so:
In favor of truth, not lies
In favor of reality, not bullshit
So as not to get ripped off or used
Ms. Jenner is barking up the wrong tree if she's expecting a pat on the head or an "Oh, you poor thing!" She's pleading that she was deceived. No, she couldn't be bothered to look or learn or listen or think in the first place, because it was "too hard", or it was how she "felt", or she got more attention endorsing Shitstain.
My advice? Stop feeling, start thinking and start acting like a fucking adult.

(41,987 posts)Im tired of the fuck you forever attitude toward people who screw up and apologize. Im also aware some apologies are hollow and always wait to see how actions bear out. But I have no desire to heap abuse on someone who is at that moment offering an apology unless its an old, false pattern.

Now that shes seen the light, can she help the rest of us? Trump and Pence are a hair away from advocating that we be shipped away in cattle cars to death camps. Pence especially would have no problem murdering us all.

(5,857 posts)that he would be ok (not great) with LGBTQ issues, until he nominated Mike Pence. That signal, along with the rest of his campaign between the nomination and election day, should have told you all you need to know if your a one issue voter.
I still doubt he gives a fuck personally, but is using the issue to drive his base.
