(37,748 posts)You and Chuck Grassley are sympatico on this one. He's none too fond of Avenatti either... and mirrors your sentiments rather closely in regards to him.

(58,724 posts)That would be my advice to him as well.

(5,644 posts)Only White males can fix the problem that they've caused throughout history?
RobinA
(9,894 posts)fixing any problems, it's about getting elected. We can't fix problems if we aren't in office. By "we" I mean Democrats.

(444 posts)he is probably right. We should have someone young and vibrant. I think Beto is the way to go. He brings in the youth vote. He has "cool. Contrast him against any republican. Think how he brings in the youth vote. The he air drummed to the Who was it not the epitome of "with it". Can you see Ted Cruz air drumming.
We need to contrast Youth vs. Old white guys.

(6,496 posts)If we can't admit to the reality of this country as it is now, we are never going to win. People here have been thinking about this in terms of the country they'd like to be living in rather than the way it actually is.
Young guy I think would work and would motivate the youth to vote. I think dems have a good track record of winning with younger male candidates.

(46,051 posts)Like a man with a Kenyan father and a white mother could never win.
Like a woman could never get 3,000,000 more votes than a white man.

I was sick of Avenatti many months ago. His 5 mins are in their last seconds.

(41,989 posts)He is way off on this one. In fact, he exactly wrong.
Me.

(41,989 posts)Just stick a, oh I dont know, say, a Biden in there snd everything will be golden? Or is he referring to himself? Is he thinking the RIGHT white male will attract the economically anxious white peoples away from Trump? So they can go back to pretending theyre not racist fucks?
This seems all so familiar...

If all the non-white, non-male potential candidates are eliminated from contention because they are non-white and/or non-male, the competition is reduced considerably.

Cuthbert Allgood
(4,921 posts)He makes a strong argument why the Obama presidency caused a racist reaction that brought on Trump.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,414 posts)Nor should it be used as an excuse to refuse to elect an African-American POTUS ever again
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,921 posts)I was responding to the "what about Obama" retort to the OP. Obama's presidency does not disprove the large segment of the population that hated a black president and brought us Trump.
And nobody is saying the should never be another African-American POTUS ever again.
Personally, I don't agree with Avenatti, but I understand where he is coming from. So does Coates.
Personally, I think what we need is someone young. Regardless of gender or color. We need to give the youth vote a reason to think that government represents them.

(8,854 posts)I guess he thinks that ALL of the enthusiasm that many in this country (and around the world) had for our first black president has been completely exhausted.

(12,344 posts)Research shows that politicians attack white male politicians the same way they do women and minorities. However, the attacks "stick" to a woman or minority more, making them more vulnerable to negative campaigning. This was one of the factors that worked against Hillary her entire career, and especially in 2016.
That said, we've also seen an energetic, inspiring black man overcome that. But not woman yet.
I'm thinking of Cory Booker here.
