General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have an idea. Lets give trump voters their own country, Texas.
They can rename it Trumpistan. They can build all the fucking walls they want.
We then could make Puerto Rico the 50th state.
All kidding aside, we have to be patient with what is happening. The Trump madness will destroy itself, burn itself out. 2019 will be a year that will go down in the history books. I believe everything will come to a head next year. The Trump madness will end and we will move on.

Besides, there already is a country perfect for Trumpistas: Saudi Arabia

Texas gets a lot of heat but there are weird people everywhere.
I live in Arizona. A lot of fools here, a lot of good Democrats too.

(15,943 posts)It really is unbelievable that we have to always go through these just kidding posts about hating on other states.
Just like the racism being only a southern thing, when in fact racists live all over the US.
Oh well, I guess people gotta have something to do.
And definitely GOOD Democrats in ALL 50 states. Texas is hoping to elect BETO O'Rourke!!!

(10,721 posts)Of course the logistics would be a nightmare and it won't ever happen, but I honestly love the idea of having a Blue America and a Red America. Red America would be destitute in a short amount of time and begging for reunification.

I'm cool with that. I think Mexico would make better use of it.
I was born and raised in Texas, but my nostalgia for the state is based entirely around a near-idyllic childhood spent there. I have no emotional attachment to the place as an adult.

(52,253 posts)it's already come a long way. used to be austin was an oasis in a sea of red. but dallas and houston are very different places now vs. 30 years ago.
it won't be long before texas is more of a democratic state than a republican state.
of course, knowing texas republicans, they'll find a way to stay in power long past their sell-by date, but still....

(363 posts)I am a life long Democrat who has lived in a Texas for nearly 20 years. I have made wonderful friends with equally liberal minded people of different races and sexual persuasions. Can you say the same of where you live? Why are some supposed liberals so small minded that they think this shit is funny?

(4,198 posts)Wisconsin and Michigan are no different. Ohio and Iowa probably not either. Not to mention the old saying that Pennsylvania between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is basically Alabama. This is a big part of why we lose: people in blue areas that can't see past their own noses--their city might be bluer than blue but the county next door is full of red. Sort of an "I got mine so fuck you" kind of attitude that seems resonant of another group...

(6,280 posts).... let's throw in willfully ignorant. The need to feed the ego by way of self righteousness is strong in many on the left. It is their contribution to feeding the fires of a civil war that ended a long time ago. As you stated, only small-minded people think this shit is funny.

(28,264 posts)Kidding or not, it's offensive to Texas Democrats, of which there are a sizeable number. We've been busting our asses for years to make things better in our state---all to the steady accompaniment of snotty put-downs like what you're slinging, here.
I got to cast my vote for Beto O'Rourke yesterday. Do you have the opportunity to vote for anybody that promising?

(4,198 posts)This sort of "purity" shit is why we lose elections.
I would wager that Houston and its surrounding counties are bluer and more diverse than most places in the entire country AND more accepting/tolerant.

(6,535 posts)as long as they build it maybe a couple hundred miles north of Dallas, and the orange fuckface and his minions aren't allowed to set foot on the Texas side of it.
Texas is a beautiful state, full of many diverse and wonderful people. If you're looking for a place to carve off for the redhats, how about we re-purpose the Nevada National Security Site (where they did all the nuke testing back in the day)?...It's surely big enough to hold them all, nobody really lives there now, and there are already fences and security systems in place so they could keep out all the brown people and "libtards" and all. Plus it's chock full of patriotic history, and I'm sure they won't mind the radiation and such, since they think science is just a bunch of lies. I bet they'd love it!

(90,773 posts)They have chosen to be incompatible with the ideals of an open and free society. This isn't even a case of people having different opinions about America - it's a case of some people wanting to undermine the country and its government by elevating authoritarianism as the ruling principle of America.
They don't want the United States of America. They want a Confederation of Theocratic States of America, with all that implies.
Where authoritarian law is used to control the people and religion is used to justify everything else.
At least that's what they think they want - until the reality of it sets in and they realize the wealthy and powerful still need and want them to be at the bottom.
By then it will be too late.
And those with money and power who want to move the country into authoritarianism will never settle for a small slice. They want the whole pie.
They want all the rest of us to be at the bottom and under their control.

(79 posts)Dont California My Texas. There are a few reasons this saying has become popular.
First is the sentiment against liberal policies. Texas prides itself on having no state income tax and minimal regulations, so businesses are flocking to the Lone Star State. Of course there are obvious problems that arise because of this.
Second, its a sentiment against the mass influx (especially in the Austin area) of Californians who have sold their ridiculously over-priced CA homes and moved to Texas.
I see this as a huge benefit. If Californians generally vote blue, Texas should be turning blue quicker than we thought. Most are predicting that Hispanics will be the reason, but Im guessing the Californians will bring a good amount of blue votes with them and help the purple go blue even quicker. Then, the republican party is done. Then youll see the republicans start criticizing the electoral college.
