Once he is gone, I wonder what to do with our anti-Trump Republican friends. People like Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt.
With the cult firmly in control, even if and when Trump is ousted, those guys wont be in a position to bring sanity back to the party. Perhaps they may lead a revolt against the cult members in leadership, but its not looking too good for them.
These days were gladly cheering them on because theyre doing a good job of holding Trump accountable. But the cult considers these guys as traitors.
Any thoughts?

Could you repeat the question without the implication that they wont have autonomy moving forward to participate in the political process according to their own dictates?

(102,293 posts)can't forget that, but it is the Pro-Trump sycophants that are our issue. We must focus on them like a laser if we are to have any democracy left to worry about our non-emergency differences with remaining "classical" conservatives.

This present hatred of people and things simply because they are of a different group is not new, but it is growing and shows no sign of slowing while we should be growing out of it.
I don't hate Republicans simply for the party they belong to. I despise many of them for the things they do. My parents were Republicans, and my mother's mother ran for Congress as a Republican. My father's mother had pictures of Eisenhower all over her home, ever thankful that my father came home unhurt from WWII.
If alive, none of them would ever embrace the Tea Party or modern wingnut Republicans. They had had their own codes of ethics and Nixon was tough enough to deal with.
Perhaps the future will be Republicans leading responsible conservative thought with Democrats leading responsible liberal thought, with extremists tugging away on both sides and the rapidly growing third of "undeclared" deciding.

(7,725 posts)All these cretins slither home. And they don't appear to be the types to have introspective change after the fact. I think it's easy to imagine there are mobs of them, and there may be. but, we vastly outnumber them. They just don't do 'news snippets' on the Americans as they get in their cars, and go to work everyday. Pay the bills, and raise a family. TRY to have good lives in the America that was given to us. Woefully few stories on the working class/poor Americans. The 3 job a day +family/life folks.
A lot of these people just like to piss people off. They've always been around. Ugly and nasty, but fragile when it's turned against them. People w too much time on their hands and easily amused. They are a minority that, for a few brief months, got to thug everyone around who THEY perceive hurt them. All the while, they are their own worst enemy.
