Voters will not be amused with this nonsense sparked by Dotard.

I'd like you to be right; I just don't understand the how of your prediction.

(1,835 posts)That the 45th created this environment and directly caused, through his rhetoric, most likely, this attack on his adversaries today. Voters will not be impressed.

(5,557 posts)The bomb mailed to CNN appears to be a fake / prank. If the others were not actual bombs this will quickly fall out of the headlines.
It's terrible, but I really hope the others are real
Edit: I misread an article saying it was 'not able to detonate' as it was non-functional rather than meaning it had not gone off. But I'll leave this in light of SQUEE's comment that it does not appear to be functional. I might have been right accidentally.

(26,060 posts)I did a google search and not one source came up calling the CNN bomb a fake.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)It is not a serious effort if it is even an explosive.
There are at least 3 "red flags" on that picture saying it is not an actual working explosive device that I can see just from the pictures.
This is, at most, posturing, an implied threat, not an actual working piece of destructive hardware.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)what you're seeing, nobody is actually reporting that. Your entire post should start with "in my opinion, based on......".
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)Still a horrible act of terrorism, and a threatening gesture.
But a few years doing a few things leads me and many others to think this is a fake, and was meant as a message, or a hoax done by a complete fool.
Seems most all of us are stating our opinions based on.... Including the majority of the media and news on this story. Why should I be any different
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)you jumped in said "it appears the bomb is fake". Based on absolutely nothing but an apparent misreading of an article. That's why. And let's remember, all I asked for was a source for that information.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)And it does definitely appear to be fake.
As a working device it makes no sense.
Numerous things about the device, the delivery and the timing make it appear to be fake.
Not having an X-ray of i, or hands on time, I can't say "Yes, that's a fake", but I can again say from experience, it APPEARS to be fake.
I could PM you the numerous items that make this so if you are interested.
Fake or not, the real story here is going to be the sender and their motivation.
Because real or not it is a threat, it is deeply troubling, and it can spur copycats, and some may not be fake.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)the package was manipulated in ANY way once it was opened? Maybe it looks to be not functional because something was done to make sure it wasn't functional.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)So I doubt it.

(1,924 posts)Per my own personal experience with homemade bombs, I see 1 glaring technical problem (the wires). My EOD friend says he sees multiple. Ignoring the tech stuff, the fact that it's been staged for a picture screams fake device. A known or suspected real device would be detonated in place, in containment, or thoroughly dismantled. Nobody is taking a picture of a live device on a table with the package neatly next to it.

(62,444 posts)For a mailed pipe bomb, it is pretty comical to have a clock on it. I like the way the tape doesn't obscure the time display, because, yeah, it's important for the recipient to know what time it is in case they forgot to wear their watch.
Your friend is correct that there is a lot of amusement in this photograph.

(7,638 posts)Did you analyze if there were any explosive materials? What else did your x-ray internet vision show?
Fucking pahlease. Delete your posts.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)I addressed that exact thing.
perhaps you can tell me, since you seem to know whats up here.. How exactly were these explosive materials going to explode?
and what exactly what damage was such a small and unfocused charge going to do?
MyNameGoesHere
(7,638 posts)I'll let your special eyes do that for me. Personally I am going to wait and see what normal x-ray eye deficient investigators say. I am betting they use science and shit to really get at the facts. Boring compared to x-ray vision but I think I'm going go with their analysis.
Besides I never trust anyone that comes out of the dungeon . Those mushrooms cause altered thinking.

(62,444 posts)It looks like something that was put together to "look like a pipe bomb".
For one thing, none of these devices even so much as fizzled some smoke from an igniter or cap.
Okay, so it is a digital auto dashboard clock with a wire going out from one side and a wire going out from the other side.
The idea of putting a "timer" device on a mailbomb is "large scale stupid clue" number one. If you want to blow someone up with a mailed device, then you don't know what time it is going to be in their hands. What you have to do is to rig your bomb so that it will go off when the package is OPENED. Not at some "time of day". That's just plain stupid.
Going into further detail, the "one wire in each end" thing is likewise pretty stupid. Even if you did have an ignition mechanism that was set to go off when the package was opened, and that was an external ignition mechanism, then you'd have TWO conductors heading to the same place. If you wanted to make one like the "don't cut the wrong wire" type as seen in movies, then you'd have two sets of two conductors heading to different places. However, because bomb disposal does not work like they show in the movies, that would be a waste of time, since things that seem like real bombs are not "disarmed" but usually just blown up.

(57,106 posts)to do was go to his website and read the details to support his opinion. This is not permitted here. In fact the way he built his post the opinion was a come on to use his website, and that is awfully close if its not exactly spamming.
I had nothing at all to do with his hide or banning, but I do understand why they happened.
I personally felt his criticism of the Democratic party and leaders just short of alertable.

(2,399 posts)And the brain-dead base will quickly follow suit...
".....we have this series of bombs that were supposedly sent today, exclusively to Democrats. And it just -- there's a smell test that this stuff has to pass, and, so far, a lot of people's noses are in the air, not quite certain of what to make of this. This is just -- it's not Republicans that show up, for example, at the offices of the Family -- what is it, some pro-life group's offices, some guy shows up with a gun and was going to shoot people, got caught before he was able to shoot anyone, Family Research Center (sic) I think, yeah.
"Republicans just don't do this kind of thing. Even though every event, like mass shootings, remember, every mass shooting there is, the Democrats in the media try to make everybody think right off the bat that some tea partier did it, or some talk radio fan did it, or some Fox News viewer did it. Turns out, it's never, ever the case. Not one of these bombs went off. And if a Democrat operative's purpose here is to make it look like, hey, you know, there are mobs everywhere, the mobs are not just Democrat mobs. I mean, look at this, you've got people here trying to harm CNN, and Obama, and Hillary and Bill Clinton, and Debbie blabbermouth Schultz. It just -- it might serve a purpose here.
