If he pulls this stunt, and really if anyone pulls this stunt, they ought to get sued. This would be an accusation of the felonious act of attempted murder. That's defamation of character plain and simple. I know, freedom of speech and all, but one better say it just right. "I think" or "it's possible" or some qualification better be part of the free speech.
