Steve Schmidt: "It looks like someone finally took Trump both literally and seriously."

Steve Schmidt

@SteveSchmidtSES

Trump has stoked a cold civil war in this Country. His rallies brim with menace and he has labeled journalists as enemies of the people. That someone would seek to kill their political enemies is not aberrational but rather the inevitable consequence of Trumps incitement.

The targets are political not coincidental. Trump, the greatest demagogue in American history has celebrated violence over and over again. It looks like someone finally took Trump both literally and seriously. The WH will feign outrage when this obvious point is made.

No journalist or commentator should be intimidated from making this point. The stoking of hatred and sundering of the American people was always going to lead to terrible consequences. Chief amongst them would be the initiation of partisan or sectarian violence within our country

that can be done so we must prepare. Demanding local and state authorities to guarantee every voters right to safely vote. Not that hard to see where the trouble could happen.

Even with the recent lawsuit and judge’s orders, there is no guarantee that mail in ballots will ever be counted.

Go to an early voting site in your city or county. Call your local BoE for locations and times.

They will then use that incident and describe it as Democrats, or Anti-Fa, or Planned Parenthood, Soros, who started it. And his poor white Christian American-loving Trump supporters were the victims. That it was Democrats that were trying to shut down democracy because a Republican was going to win.

He has been stoking this since the day he announce he was running. This has been his plan all along. To get his minions to enact revenge on HIS enemies. He is an out of control danger to this nation and to the world. Somebody - or many somebodies - have got to stop him now. This can only get worse.

The propaganda of the rightwing noise machine has been demonizing Democrats and the "liberal media" for decades.

Trump's more obvious and open dog whistles to racism and violence provided a catalyst and a Dear Leader at the very top to embody and focus all this latent fascism.

The list of white, male, native-born Americans with a grudge is long and persistent in our history. To keep passing them off as "lone wolves" is to miss the point completely: sometimes they have a support network like Rudolph, sometimes they play their part in stochastic terrorism, and sometimes they are certifiable like Kaczynski -- but they are terrorists and we need to start calling them that when we speak of their kind.

But to your point: all Putin needs to do is give them a nudge. They will do the rest on their own.

Democrats: Quit minimizing the perilous circumstances we're faced with, at this very moment. Absent a profound and overwhelming anti-trump showing at the midterms, there is absolutely nothing to prevent things from getting worse and worse. Quit trashing the alarm-sounders---they're correct in their warnings.

Would be that this is NOT a "cold" civil war.

The hatred of these people is white hot. And getting hotter every day. As we approach the election, it is becoming less and less civil, too.

I worry that when dems are elected this time around that there will be haters who will try to prevent them from taking office. By force.
