Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, already under scrutiny for expenses incurred during a 2016 trip to New York City, is facing new questions after records released Tuesday appeared to show undercover FBI agents paid for his hotel room and ticket to the Broadway musical Hamilton. The records, released by an attorney representing former lobbyist Adam Corey, who was present on the trip with Gillum, included photos, a video, and dozens of text messages that appeared to cast doubt on Gillums claims that his brother paid for his ticket to the Broadway musical. Text messages released Tuesday show that Gillum was informed before the show that the tickets were bought by Mike Miller, an FBI agent looking into city corruption while posing as a developer, according to the Miami Herald. Mike Miller and the crew have tickets for us for Hamilton tonight at 8 p.m., Corey reportedly texted Gillum. Awesome news about Hamilton, Gillum was quoted as responding. While Gillum claimed Tuesday that the text messages only confirm what we have said all alongthat the tickets were reserved by a friend of his brotherGillums Republican rival, Ron DeSantis, seized the new allegations as proof the Tallahassee mayor is lying. Its now abundantly clear that Andrew Gillum has repeatedly lied about taking free gifts and trips from lobbyists, DeSantis campaign said in a statement.

(22,143 posts)setup and an attempt to defraud and deceive a candidate for office.
DeSantis and his campaign should be examined closely to what role they had in this whole thing, and if any role, should be immediately disqualified running for office any longer.
This whole thing doesn't make sense. If Gillium was running for office, and knew the importance of being above board, which I'm sure he did, this is clearly an attempt by DeSantis' campaign to steal this election and sway its results.
Won't work.

(13,305 posts)...rather than treating this as the nothing it is....rather than pointing out the 8 million things that are 8 million times worse that the Republicans have done in this same vein.......that our side will feel compelled to take the "high road" and be scolds about this, or distance themselves from Gillum or call for him to drop out or whatever the heck else.
Sadly it's what we do, because there are people that are still naive enough to believe that the high road gets us anywhere rather than fighting back and pushing back hard on this type of double standard.
Maybe I'll be wrong this time.

presumably there was some sort of investigation if there were undercover fbi agents....
i'm just saying, wouldn't the normal process be to try not to go public with any of this until after the election?
unless perhaps the cover was blown somehow?
on edit:
the investigation was in 2016, it's news today because the lobbyist's texts and emails were subpoenaed and he decided to just release them publicly. not clear to me why, and why now. the article says he once was a good friend of gillum.

(7,715 posts)and the wannabe FL Senator:
Scott was once hailed as a wunderkind for making the hospital chain the largest healthcare company in America. Then, he became a pariah after he and his company were investigated for Medicare fraud, leading to his ouster in 1997.
Today, Scott avoids even mentioning the words Columbia/HCA.

This accusation now about Hamilton tix etc is laughable to the extreme. However, never underestimate the strength of a Republican smear - it is the one thing they truly excel at.

(22,977 posts)Noah Pransky of Tampa's 10 News has been doing an expose on the cluster surrounding SunPass and its collection agency system. The company the Governor contracted to oversee it not only are donors to his Senate campaign but Scott and his wife are said to have holdings within the same company.
The Governor has delayed the latest round of collections to be issued until after the election to keep people in the dark about the bill(s) they will be receiving.

(1,737 posts)Aren't ya? "READ IT AT MIAMI HERALD".
Anyway, I see nothing that detracts from Gillum's statement on this matter. Also, if the Herald is going to report a story like this, they need to bring receipts. Where are the receipts? I see nothing that shows the FBI bought the tickets. However, I get Desantis' message loud and clear that a black man can be bought for Hamilton tickets. Really?
