The enthusiasm gap between Jordan and her opponent, 64-year-old multimillionaire Lt. Gov. Brad Little (R), was obvious after their last debate. The self-described undecided voters in attendance swarmed her for photos and questions as he quietly slipped out. One veteran waited in line for 15 minutes to meet her and promptly ripped a sticker off of his shirt bearing Littles name, saying he is voting for her instead.
Jasper LiCalzi, the chair of the department of political economy at the College of Idaho, said Jordan has hit a sweet spot in the Idaho electorate: young people and women unhappy with President Donald Trump and people across all parties who feel ignored.
Jordan, a 6-foot-tall indigenous woman in a state led by white Republican men, also just looks different. Between her dynamism and calls for big changes to Idaho policies, like marijuana legalization, she couldnt stand out more from Little, who is, well, boring.
Paulette Jordan comes from a long line of tribal chiefs, and the elders in her tribe, the Coeur dAlene tribe, saw that same leadership quality in her early on, said her mom. She said her own mother would often pull her aside and tell her to make sure to protect her daughter because the elders believed she had a gift. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5bc90d21e4b0d38b58766654

'Some people, often older men, cry when they meet Jordan. Others tell her shes inspiring them to vote for the first time in years. Strangers have asked her to marry them.'

(297,323 posts)Paulette Jordan is beautiful inside and out. I love it when Native Americans are running for Office.
What an awesome history she has. Best of Luck to her for Gov of Idaho!
There have been a few Indigenous women running for office in the past few elections in this region. I hope she wins! That damned Butch Otter and his predecessor have done so much damage to that state, I had to move to Montana! I'll have to do some research on her policy proposals, I've been trying to catch up on the local issues in this new county I just moved to recently.

(297,323 posts)to a new place!
My granddaughter just started her freshman year at the U of Providence in Great Falls, Montana.
I only moved here because I was living in my car and was able to get into housing way over here, in the next county, so I moved in. The county folks are the ones I am unfamiliar with. Great Falls is almost 200 miles north of me, I hope she enjoys it while she's here and does well in her studies.
I sent in my ballot Saturday or Sunday.

(297,323 posts)ok for the first year respectively.. Thank Goodness I didn't have to stay much longer. Did have million dollar views, though.
It makes me appreciate my apartment that much more now. And, refrigerator!!

(86,647 posts)I even have a freezer in my fridge, didn't have one in my last place that I lived in for seven years. I like having a bathroom all to my self too.

Freezers are good to have!

(86,647 posts)and soooo taken for granted. I can store things for longer than a day or two! Having a kitchen, bathroom, heat and a good bed, pretty much all I need for housing, well, it has to be sound housing with all the windows and doors and insulation!

(129,106 posts)She's only 38 so she has some time to build up electoral experience. There are 2 Congressional seats in the state plus a Senate seat up in 2020, so one of those would be something to run for!

Maybe the candidates that garner the most excitement in the widest spectrum of voters are the ones most representative of the majority. I know I'm tired of where the right-wing Reaganites yanked this country.
