I was scrolling through the comments on the NYTimes article reporting the explanation - and, to a person, they found the suggestion that he died as the result of a fistfight absolutely unbelievable. One of the commentors said,

I've just scrolled down through about 200 Comments here. NEVER, in all my time reading Comments on the NYT have I seen UNANIMITY on a particular issue. NEVER!!

That matches my experience in reading comments. I am dumbfounded.

I guess the only remaining hope is that the outcry is as loud and sustained as it was at his child separation policy, and he is forced to back down.
