1. This is what bothers me here

Its that the NYT is smart enough to know what they are requesting is in regards to an ongoing investigation, and, public knowledge of what they wish to have would likely "help" out any defendants. Yet they still "demand" it be released. This is my biggest issue with the media - criminal justice issues where they should understand that their reporting can affect cases. Sure, this is not as bad as FNC giving weekly to nightly air time to a defense attorney to smear a dead kid in order to taint a jury pool, but it would end up being counter-productive to probably more than one current investigation. And of course Trump would love to have all they know about Cohen. I just don't get them(NYT) here.

2. Maybe NYT knows they will fail to get public release but

are trying to shake loose something like the government response above?
Also wonder who at the NYTimes is behind this.
