A long time ago , just so he can vote in their primaries to try and keep the worst off the ballots. Then of course, votes D in generals

in order to get Democrats. Gotta have some cover, after all.

Plus, of course, Republican voter profiles also include race and other significant identifying data. Adding an on-line purchase of a MAGA hat and "Immigration reform is building a better fence" bumper sticker wouldn't trump skin color or street address in any computer algorithm.
