I was at a fundraiser last night for a friend running for the West Virginia house of delegates. The folks there were universally angry with Joe.

Some were talking about voting for the independent, or leaving the Senate race vote blank. I think we talked them down off the ledge, but after November, Manchin won't be able to get elected dogcatcher in this state.

He seems to think that hardcore republicans would vote for him if he supported Kavanaugh. He severely underestimated how furious West Virginia Democrats would be.

What he needed to do was calculated as carefully as he and his team could manage. I think we should assume they knew a lot more about this than any of us.
