Cheech & Chong star tries to travel to Canada for cannabis legalisation day but can't find passport

Pot-loving Tommy Chong is due to return to his homeland to usher in the new era

<snip>

"Canada’s most famous stoner, comedian and actor Tommy Chong, is unsure if he can make it back home for the day cannabis is legalised because he has lost his passport.

The 80-year-old, who starred in the famous reefer comedy Up In Smoke in 1972 and now lives in California, was supposed to appear at an event in British Columbia on Wednesday but discovered while packing that he has mislaid his travel documents.

“We’re trying. Right now, I’m stuck here. I lost my passport, so we’re going through the dance of a celebrity trying to get a passport fast,” he told the Toronto Star.

Chong became one of the most well-known marijuana advocates along with his comedy partner, Cheech Marin, during the heydey of the stoner era in the 1970s."

US threatens to stop Canadian pot businessmen at border

<snip>

"Canada may have legalised recreational marijuana but executives of the country's booming cannabis industry need to be aware they are not exactly welcome south of the border in the United States.

As the world's first major economy fully legalised cannabis, officials of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) warned they won't admit anyone arriving with the intent "to aid in the proliferation of the marijuana business".

Even if some US states and localities, including the capital Washington, DC, permit medical or recreational cannabis use, the CBP warned the drug remains illegal under US federal law, giving them the responsibility to fight its use and promotion.

"If... a Canadian is coming to the United States and it has nothing to do with the marijuana industry or the proliferation of the industry, that person would generally be deemed admissible," CBP officer Christopher Perry said in a press conference in Detroit, Michigan, near the Canadian border.

But "if they're coming to the United States … with the express interest to facilitate or develop the marijuana industry, they would generally be deemed inadmissible."

Tommy Chong even has his own special strain of Marijuana, called Chongs Choice. I could easily see Jeff Sessions telling boarder agents to prevent him from returning. One of the reasons I would not want to leave the country now, is because I might have problems getting back in... simply because someone might assume I am a foreigner, and despite having a passport, might be challenged at the border, because "She doesn't look like an American" .

Oops, I was thinking about Towelie remembering the pass code to the Tynacorp facility so the boys from South Park can get back their Okama Gamesphere.

At the Troubadour in Hollywood in 1971. They opened for the singer David Clayton-Thomas the night I saw them. They did a pretty long set with only a couple of stools for props, just pantomiming. They did a bunch of bits from the album and a bunch of bits that ended up later in their movies. They were hilarious!
